Regardless of what we may consider the definitive versions to be, it's what they preserve for future platform releases that becomes definitive. With MGS on PSN and the HD collection, here is the content that is not preserved:
MG & MG2 - the mobile phone updated versions are the ones that live on, not the originals. Nothing is lost on MG1 but MG2 loses the original radio portraits. Both games also had several characters renamed.
MGS VR Missions - you do keep the ones that came with the original game, but the Integral version is dead. The were not in the Essential Collection, 20th Anniversay set, downloadable on PSN, or the HD Collection
MGS2 - skateboarding mini game from Substance.
MGS3 - Snake vs Monkey mini game and Secret Theatre. You also lose the Guy Savage demo in Snake's nightmare as well as the cutscene of him waking in the cell.
All online modes are cancelled.
Is anything missing from Peace Walker HD?

Who gives a damn what they preserve for future releases. I'll consider what I want as definitive in the series. And a lot of what you mentioned is definitive enough for me.

Eventually all systems wear out. Do you really think you'll still rock your PS2 30 years from now? Sorry, but only the versions Kojima picks will live on.

The document of MGS2 hasn't been re-released ether.
I really wish VR Missions would make it's way to PSN, i would love to play it.

Eventually all systems wear out. Do you really think you'll still rock your PS2 30 years from now? Sorry, but only the versions Kojima picks will live on.No disrespect, but... Spoken like a pure fanboy. Spend some time in other Metal Gear fan communities, or gaming communities in general, and you'll see that many of these things you feel are left behind, are actually living on quite well. As for whether the PS2 will still rock on 30 years from now. Uh, are you serious? Does the NES mean anything to you? It's been released almost 30 years ago and people still show interest in this old system. They still play it, express their appreciation for it online and the market for this console is more than strong. Heck, it took about 20 years to simply discontinue it and that doesn't take into account its fanbase. Moreover, Nintendo is still offering many of its games for download via the Wiiware service and in re-releases. Heck, many of its European counterparts are still hot in sales today. The same thing could be said for several other old-school game consoles, as well as home computers that actually predate the NES. So when it comes to the PS2, it isn't nearly as old as the NES so there's quite some way to go for 30 years to pass. But the console enjoyed extreme success and has been highly popular. How can you decide the future and be so determined that the PS2 won't rock on 30 years later? What if it becomes the next NES in terms of current-day followers? And whether you want to accept it or not, something will live on as long as it still has audience; not whether some big little man decides to discard it (and Kojima didn't even make a statement, anyway).

Not sure how my point of view is labeled as a fanboy. In fact, it's very much the opposite. Desperately hanging on to every little thing with a Metal Gear label, that's being a fanboy. Hoping that your PS2 will work 30 years from now, that's being a fanboy.

Oh, good. So hoping to preserve a highly successful piece of gaming electronic several years later warrants someone a fanboy label. Well, then, go ahead and label the millions out there who intend to preserve old-school computers and video game consoles as fanboys. And why stop there? Label anyone who intends to preserve any type of electronic as fanboys of those electronics. Tell me again, what exactly makes one a fanboy if they hope their game system works 30 years from the present?
And I never said it makes you a Metal Gear fanboy; it makes you a Kojima fanboy. A fanboy isn't limited to objectified material, you know. I also never said to desperately hang onto every little Metal-Gear related thing; where did the desperacy come from again?

You brought the fanboy crap into this, so don't bitch when I throw it back at you. I never claimed in all this that I agree with what is being preserved, I merely stated a fact. Starting a bitchfest over that is pointless. Now you're making assumptions about what I like and support and then attempting to make an argument with it. Typical forum geek douchebaggery.

I'm merely pointing out your ludicrous perception of fanboys on the basis of hardware preservation, so there was really nothing you "threw" back at me for me to bitch about.
Fact = / = opinion. Tell me, exactly what is factual about content being left behind just because it wasn't included in recent re-releases? Unless I completely missed out on an article or whatnot, where does Kojima, his team or Konami explicitly state that those things are discarded?
I'm making assumptions about what you like? It's pretty clear to anyone what you like; and that is Kojima-related Metal Gear content and the current state of the series. I don't need to be making assumptions, even a newcomer will pick that up after frequenting this place a few days. Then he most likely will head over to one of the more active Metal Gear communities.
Oh, pots and kettles, by the way. Running a forum for a video game series doesn't steer you clear of being a "geek". And with such arrogance, as well as using terms like "douchebaggery", you're not exactly innocent of "typical forum geek douchebaggery".

Why are you here? This topic dates back to July, what is the point of this debate? A dead topic on a dead forum that nobody cares about. Yet, here you are... Geeking out... Trying to argue a point nobody cares about. Do you really think that what you say matters? Do you really think that your geeky bitchfest will accomplish anything? I mean, when the forum admin doesn't even post here anymore, why would you think this is a worthwhile fight? Honestly, as much fun as it would be to exchange walls of text with a nerd, I really don't feel like it.

Wow, only took you a few hours to run back here and open a new account... How pathetic. Desperately trying to make your voice heard on a dead forum. And for what? What will it change? Nothing. You see, I'm not interested in debating this with you because I don't care if your mind changes. I've been in enough of these useless forum arguments to know they lead to a dead end. So instead, I'll do what clearly gets under your skin, I won't let your voice be heard at all. Let's face it, that's what you really want. So go ahead, make another account. See where it gets you. Keep wasting your time.

There goes AG getting hot-headed again -- doesn't take long, lol! Looks like I missed out on this fun. Oh well, glad it's resolved. Welcome to the board. Looks like you've got some maturity and not just keyboard rage to back up your thoughts, so that's always welcomed by me.

If my memory doesn't fails me, the only thing left out of the Peace Walker HD release is/was the PSP connection interphase... which with all due respect, really wasn't needed anymore since the PS3 works via basic internet.
You forgot to mention that MGS3 also lost its original Online mode (not surprising since that died to be replaced by the MGS4 online... and that is DEAD by this point too) and the ability to see photos you took in 3D via the snake eyes from Ac!d 2 on your PSP.
Most of it is dated technology and gimmicks that didn't work, being completely honest. Also, I'm guessing they took the skateboard and the Guy Savage things out because they were plug-ins for games that either didn't work (skateboard) or that didn't happen (Guy Savage).
HOWEVER, I can tell you that you're at least SLIGHTLY wrong when it comes to the big "hope your PS3 lasts forever" scenario. In a sense, the right phrase is "I hope your games remain backwards compatible forever!".
If the PS4 (heh) STILL plays PS1 games, the VR Missions will live on as long as CDs (and technically ISOs) remain available.
Just my two cents.
