So, in a few topics around the Internet I found discussions where MGS4 was labeled as being too centered on action as opposed to stealth. Even some reviews mentioned that. Could it really be true? Made me wonder why people would see it that way, especially at a first glance. It's true, the game offers A LOT of weapons. It also fixed the combat controls so that you can actually have fun with a shoot out scenario. Guns and good controls... So MGS4 is an action over stealth game? No. You can't say that. Well, you can... But you would be wrong.
The ability to blast your way through the enemies only comes with multiple playthroughs, once you've amassed a solid cache of Drebin points and unlocked/purchased the fun toys. On your first playthrough, you have to use stealth, especially on the harder settings. I just finished the game on Extreme, as a new game. Nothing unlocked. I tell you what, I had to sneak that sh*t! A direct firefight eats up your three allowed rations real quick! Plus you gotta make your shots count.
The fact is, MGS4 is a stealth game. The refined controls allow you to engage in action sequences with the same attention to detail that is given to the stealth elements. That's a first for the series. Even if you choose to interfere in the war zone, on early playthroughs you have to use stealth. Higher difficulty settings require it.
Anyone that questions this, please... Go try the game on extreme. See how far you get blasting your way through with three rations and 300 bullets.

I was reminded how important Stealth was when I had to restart from the beginning to start getting trophies, I still love trying to tackle it as a sneaking mission rather than all out war.

Couldn't agree with you more! It just gives you a lot of options - remember that one game? The one released recently? Also about stealth... Slither Well... Splitter Well...Splitter Sell... the one which said: yo, you can use one of three playstyles! Well, MGS4 did the same sh*t 5 years ealrier without trying to press your playstyle in a category

This has reminded me of Splinter Cell - Chaos Theory.

Actually, I was hinting at the marketing of Blacklist back then, where they advertised you can play one out of three different predetermined playstyles, when MGS4 gave you whatever you wanted to play however you wanted, without having the predetermine it.

Yeah, exactly. You can choose one of four basic uniform types (naked for speed, camouflage as the basic package, sneaking suit for stealth, with less gear but less visibility and a battle armor for, well, battle, with additional inventory slots and, most importantly, an additional weapon slot). Unlike Splinter Cell, however, you can customize your loadout. I'm intregued to see this in an open world. If you haven't played it, check it out. It is far superior to Portable Ops.

The first time I went through MGS4, I was using my weapon like a blazing firefight would, not really much stealth-oriented. I kind of like the bullsh*t of having to sneak but sometimes it gets repetitive. I was doing it on the lower difficulties, so it was more of having fun and amassing Drebin currency than actually doing stealth. But, if you talk about Splinter Cell, that has a LOT more options, 'cos you can hang from the ceiling to hide the enemies, or shoot out lights to make them 'save' on electricity, lmfao.

Ok, I only ever played Double Agent and it's been quite a few years. But I never really go into the story of the series, which is important to me.

Storywise it's rather complicated...I mean, the NSA has technology that beats out a LOT of other companies, so I found myself constantly looking through the pause menu, reading up on intercepted emails and messages on criminals, etc. But then, I only completed the first game and half of Pandora Tomorrow, so...I'm not quite qualified to criticise it, lmfao.
