Forgive me if there is already one of these, or if this causes lots of anger, but I had to post it. I just finished Metal Gear Solid 3 again (i'm replaying all of them...except the Nintendo ones, which I will comment on that later) and I just got all Metal Gear hyped all over again! w00t.
But yeah, with the arrival of another Metal Gear on an all new system, I think now, more than ever, change can be made. And I would like to state my idea's for what should change here. These aren't in any particular order.
I am kind of getting irritated by the increasingly unbelievable story lines. MGS3, while it had a relatively plausible story, had completely unrealistic bosses. MGS had a few bosses that were kind of far fetched, but this could be justified as Solid Snake hallucinating. Nothing that drastic really ever happened with bosses in MGS. MGS2 didn't really have anyone normal, except Fat Man who was just a fat guy with bombs. But it wasn't completely bizzare, because they all at least looked human. And MGS3 comes along and has only one normal boss character. Ocelot. The Cobra's all are completely strange and bizzarre, ranging from Bee Controllers to Spider-Men to a guy who could photosynthesize (is that a word?)? Not to mention, they all exploded when they died. The Boss seemed normal up until the end when she suddenly summoned an entire field of flowers which changed colors and she had a scar that wiggled around. However, I kind of saw these as motif's and let them alone. It's not that these elements are so terrible in scarce amounts, it's just I would really like to have more normal people. It's much cooler to have a bad ass bad guy who is human, and is just bad ass because he is experienced, not because God gave him the gift of living over a century or having a long forked tongue that would make Gene Simmons blush. I just want a bad ass normal guy. Ocelot was the closest thing we got in MGS3 in my opinion.
Next. I know this is too late, but for the love of God stop making Snake look ridiculous. The mullet was okay...I mean, I don't know why they changed his MGS hair which was cool to a mullet, but I got used to it. But now...a Mustache? Could they make him seem like a hick any more? A beard like Big Boss had would be cool, but the Mustache just looks dumb. I can get over that though I suppose.
Of course, I want this game to tie it all together. I thought I read that MGS3 was supposed to answer it all, but it didn't at all...it raised more questions. If you ask me, MGS3 should have been what MGS4 will be, and MGS3 should have been a different game series all-together. It just kind of seems like Hideo was avoiding answering things, and decided to go the complete opposite direction of answering those questions that keep me up at night.
I WANT MORE GUN BATTLES. MGS2 had the biggest tragedy...lots of destructible things...ZERO chances to destroy them unless you completely abandon the games premise of stealth. Also, while we are on the topic, we need some new character animations. I mean, have pre-set death actions is fine, but rag-doll physics wouldn't be a bad thing to throw in. It gets all seeing people killed the same all the time. Also, somehow figure out a way to make grenade items more useful. It's really hard for me to justify trying to lob a grenade when I usually get hit and the action gets cancelled. And then, not to mention, but the time I lob one, i can't make it accurate enough to do any damage. that could just be my problem though.
Bring back CQC, or something like it. That was a really good idea. However, maybe make it a little easy to control. I found myself slitting guys throats when I was trying to interrogate them...heh.
Okay...I want a silencer...now, stick with me on this one because it's a CRAZY thought...a silencer...on a sniper rifle!...okay calm down, i know how that never happens...but we should try it!...no but seriously, why haven't they done that yet? I love sniper rifles, but half their use in the modern era is to be a silent long range weapon. And maybe they could incorporate a burst fire sniper rifle. That would be cool.
Don't bring back the stealth camo...it was good in theory, but just got annoying. I think they should have just had a kind of universal camo, and then had your camo index go up or down depending on your position...thus still using the stealth method, but not forcing me to change my camo every time i crawl over a patch of grass different from the former.
I know this is dumb, but lower the time it takes for Caution to die down...God that's annoying to have to sit in hiding for 90 seconds. But, it's dumb I know...so that was just me venting that out finally.
Have some way to reset the game from a pause menu or something. I don't like to get caught, so I reset when I do, and it's annoying that I can't just hit pause and then main menu. it would be a nice touch in my opinion
have some way to move while crouched...crawling is too slow, running is too fast...having some kind of hunched over run would be very useful.
have a way to execute a guard who is lying unconcious. I know you can shot them, but I'd like to pick them up and break their neck or slit their throat.
having the tranq gun is okay, but don't force me to use it. if you give me that, give me a regular pistol too.
Have a better save method. It seems like the saving is really random. Sometimes I'll save half-way through a map and then load it to find that all the weapons I had found, guards I'd neutralized, etc. were completely undone. Othertimes they weren't...I don't know why the just don't have it load from exactly where you saved.
PLEASE PLEASE don't tell me that Otacon's little robot is going to follow me around the entire game...that will really be annoying.
Have more Codec contacts like MGS. MGS3 had a good amount, but some of them had no personality. for instance, i'd beat a Cobra-unit member and nobody I would call would even congratulate me or acknowledge that I won.
