01. Metal Gear (MSX2/Mobile Phone) 02. Metal Gear (Famicom/NES/Commodore 64/IBM) 03. Snake's Revenge (NES/Famicom/Tiger Handheld) 04. Metal Gear 2 Solid Snake (MSX2/Mobile Phone) 05. Metal Gear Solid (PlayStation/Bleem!Cast) 06. Metal Gear Solid Integral (PlayStation/PC) 07. Metal Gear Solid VR Mission (PlayStation) 08. Metal Gear Ghost Babel (Game Boy Color) 09. Metal Gear Solid 2 Sons Of Liberty (PlayStation 2) 10. The Document of Metal Gear Solid 2 (PlayStation 2) 11. Metal Gear Solid 2 Substance (Xbox/PlayStation 2/PC) 12. Metal Gear Solid The Twin Snakes (Game Cube) 13. Metal Gear Solid 3 Snake Eater (PlayStation 2) 14. Metal Gear Acid (PSP) 15. Metal Gear Solid 3 Subsistence (PlayStation 2) 16. Metal Gear Acid 2 (PSP) 17. Metal Gear Solid 4 Guns Of The Patriots (PlayStation 3)
See, this is why most sites drop out. Starting a MG site would require covering all those games. And depending on how much detail you put in your coverage, it could take a while to get that done. What a huge series it is now. Truly a marvel. Few can compare.
Back when I started MGF, I had only the first 9 to think about. Now the number of games nearly doubled!

And about only five or six of them are worth spending your money on (for me anyways).

Well, you absolutely must have the main series, and in some cases the expanded version is the way to go. I would say, if you had to buy the MG sereis, theway to go is:
1. Metal Gear Solid (PlayStation One) 2. Metal Gear Solid VR Mission (PlayStation One) 3. Metal Gear Solid 2 Substance (PlayStation 2) 4. Metal Gear Solid 3 Subsistence (PlayStation 2)
This way you get everything, MGS, MGS2, MGS3 with all their extras, as well as MG1 and MG2.
In 4 games you get the best of the series.

Acid is pretty much a necessity if you have a PSP.

well, I was talking more about the main timeline, the signiture Metal Gear.
Acid is important if you follow the evolution of handhelds. the main timeline is a good example of video game evolution in general.
But you are right, IF you have a PSP, Acid is a must have. But I think that if you talk about the Metal Gear series, Acid is not that big of a deal.

This way the series look mightier:
01. Metal Gear (MSX2) 02. Metal Gear (Mobile Phone) 03. Metal Gear (Famicom) 04. Metal Gear (NES) 05. Metal Gear (Commodore 64) 06. Metal Gear (IBM) 07. Metal Gear 2 Snake's Revenge (NES) 08. Metal Gear 2 Snake's Revenge (Famicom) 09. Metal Gear 2 Snake's Revenge (Tiger Handheld) 10. Metal Gear 2 Solid Snake (MSX2) 11. Metal Gear 2 Solid Snake (Mobile Phone) 12. Metal Gear Solid (PlayStation) 13. Metal Gear Solid (Bleem!Cast) 14. Metal Gear Solid Integral (PlayStation) 15. Metal Gear Solid Integral (PC) 16. Metal Gear Solid VR Mission (PlayStation) 17. Metal Gear Ghost Babel (Game Boy Color) 18. Metal Gear Solid 2 Sons Of Liberty (PlayStation 2) 19. The Document of Metal Gear Solid 2 (PlayStation 2) 20. Metal Gear Solid 2 Substance (PlayStation 2) 21. Metal Gear Solid 2 Substance (Xbox) 22. Metal Gear Solid 2 Substance (PC) 23. Metal Gear Solid The Twin Snakes (Game Cube) 24. Metal Gear Solid 3 Snake Eater (PlayStation 2) 25. Metal Gear Acid (PSP) 26. Metal Gear Solid 3 Subsistence (PlayStation 2) 27. Metal Gear Acid 2 (PSP) 28. Metal Gear Solid 4 Guns Of The Patriots (PlayStation 3)
Or maybe it looks more milkier? Yeah, shaking the screen at this point would defenately make for some tasty MGS-milkshake...

That's really just an unnecessary listing of all the Metal Gear ports. If you'll notice the OP had listed all the games and the consoles they were ported on, just not several times for each port.

That's not really a game though. If we're going to add that, why not add the comics as well?

That's not really a game though. If we're going to add that, why not add the comics as well? MGS:BD is coming for the PSP, it will contain pictures and music, maybe even cut scenes. You don't call that a game? Its not just some dumb comic you can read on your PSP, its going to much more. Els they could easily make a real comic out of it.

.........A UMD comic would be pretty pointless. You should just make a graphic novel.
