There is going to be kackward compatiblity no matter what.
not having that in the game would maen sure failure. if there wasnt backward comp. for the PS2 it would failed.

Yeah, PSOne compatibility is the only reason to get a PS2, except for all the great games on the PS2, that is. PS2 would have done just fine without backward compatibility, that jsut adds to how great the PS2 is. That's like saying Gameboy Advance would have failed were it not for backwards compatibility. There are enough great GBA titles to make backwards compatibility unnecessary. But it's there anyway, and that's always nice.

I highly doubt PS2 would survive without the backward capabillity.

Yeah, just a second.
Devil May Cry Devil May Cry 3 Metal Gear Solid 2 Metal Gear Solid 3 Resident Evil: Code Veronica Grand Theft Auto 3 Grand Theft Auto Vice City Grand Theft Auto San Andreas
Just to name a few of the extremely high-selling games that were exclusive to Playstation 2 upon their release. Backwards compatibility is not a necessity. Xbox has fewer exclusive games worth buying, and their online play costs money, and they're doing just fine. Don't be so near-sighted.

So what you're saying is, that if PS2 did not play PSOne games, you would have never bought one?

I would of bought a PS2 either way! wanna know why??
Because my PS1 was chipped so all my games were burnt! So backwards compatibility wasnt an issue.
But my PS2 isnt and all my games are original so i dont think i would buy a PS3 if it didnt have backwards compatibility.

I would buy a PS3 even if it didn't play PS2 games. Because the fact of the matter is, PS2 doesn't play PS3 games either. I can already kiss the following goodbye if I don't get one
Mortal Kombat 7 Metal Gear Solid 4

i guess your right. they know its essential for it to be backwards compatable.

It's not essential, but they'll do it anyway. Gamecube sucks for the most part, doesn't play N64 games, and still grosses a whole lot of money.

No one wants a GC here in Australia there selling it for $99. While the Xbox and PStwo are still being sold for $250 with like 1 or 2 platinum games.

Here in the States, and in Japan, GC sells for $99 american, but it still has an ENORMOUS base of fans and isn't close to losing money. I'm sure if GC can do that well without a whole lot of impressive features or games, PS3 could do well without backwards compatibility.

Backwards compatability will only be satisfying for a while I mean do any of you really play any of your old PS1 games now??? I doubt it, once the PS3 has settled down with enough games everyone will move on from PS2 games to PS3 games I say in a matter of months. BUT yes Id still like for it to have the backwards capability just in case I wanted to go back and have some fond memories of the old days come back to me.

Yeah, I play Syphon Filter 1-3, Tenchu 2 and Metal Gear Solid weekly. And who are you? How can you have 40 posts, when first time I've ever seen you is today? That makes me think you changed your name and removed you sig and all. BUT, no one I've seen hanging around here are as cocky as you.
