"December 1994 marked a very special occasion in the history of video games with the launch of the original PlayStation, the PS1. Selling over 100 million units in less than eleven years, PS1 became the first console in history to achieve this milestone. Now though, two generations on, with PlayStation 3 on the horizon PS1 production has been stopped in order to free up manufacturing resources for PlayStation’s grandson PlayStation 3.
As well as holding the record for being the first console to sell over 100 million units the PS1 became a 90’s icon. Revolutionizing gaming and single handedly introducing adults into gaming with games like Grand Theft Auto, Tomb Raider and WipeOut, the console will no doubt remain a cult favorite along with the ZX Spectrum and Atari 7800.
Although the console’s appearance in public has become increasingly rare as time marches on, there is probably not a single reader here who cannot fondly remember a certain title or specific moment locked in mortal combat with a friend or family member."
