"December 1994 marked a very special occasion in the history of video games with the launch of the original PlayStation, the PS1. Selling over 100 million units in less than eleven years, PS1 became the first console in history to achieve this milestone. Now though, two generations on, with PlayStation 3 on the horizon PS1 production has been stopped in order to free up manufacturing resources for PlayStation’s grandson PlayStation 3. As well as holding the record for being the first console to sell over 100 million units the PS1 became a 90’s icon. Revolutionizing gaming and single handedly introducing adults into gaming with games like Grand Theft Auto, Tomb Raider and WipeOut, the console will no doubt remain a cult favorite along with the ZX Spectrum and Atari 7800. Although the console’s appearance in public has become increasingly rare as time marches on, there is probably not a single reader here who cannot fondly remember a certain title or specific moment locked in mortal combat with a friend or family member." www.ps3portal.com/sony/article/340.html

You gamed well, PS1. If it weren't for you, Hironobo Sakaguchi may not have made Final Fantasy 7. Hideo Kojima wouldn't have though of Metal Gear Solid, and Naughty Dog could have never sold Crash Bandicoot to VU and started sucking ass (not Naughty Dog, Crash Bandicoot. That series is pure sh*t since they sold it.)

I won't miss it. I got both, the original PlayStation and the PSone up on my shelf. And I only use my PSone for PSone games. In my house, they will continue to live on. The grey original is the first game console I've ever had. Though I don't use it anymore, it still works perfectly.

I have one of the very first Playstation (not PSOne) consoles. It kicked ass back in the day and still does now. It was a pretty awesome run while it lasted.

All I hear is that opening sound for PS1, now fading away from the younger generation but we will never forget.
Damn we need a memorial or something for PS1

My original PlayStation (grey) still works great, but I don't trust it with the memory cards. I've had a problem once where it erased the card (Metal Gear data at that!). So, to be on the safe side, I use my PSone. But I have the original behind it, unpluged, just for show.
