My PS2.....broke. After 5 years of working perfectly, it broke. God Damn. Any suggestions. I got GameCube if you know some good games. I should pick up RE 4 for the GC.......seeing as its only $20 now.

Every game I put in the disc, doesn't work! I've tried absolutley everything to make it work, but it doesnt. Made sure the disks are extra clean too. But nope, nothing. The lens is probably fried.

It's the laser allignment.
It can be fixed with a mini screwdriver and some patience.

Get a PSTwo. Unless you know exactly what you're doing, you're just going to f...ck up your PS2 even worse.

That's what happened to me. I took it apart to clean the laser or something, and now it sits in pieces, collecting dust in the closet.
I think $149 for just the system. At gamestop you can get a refurbished one for cheaper, and a used one for even cheaper then that.

I might just get a used one. I don't wanna take much out of my PS3 fund. Or I might wait for the PS3.

But getting a used one might come the problem that has happened with yours. It just might be on the brink of death too. thats why they got rid of it.

If you have the funds to get a PSTwo then by all means get one.

Alright, if you might buy a new one anyways, what's it going to hurt to try and open the 'broken' one and clean the lens? You could save money, so try this.
Find a small enough screwdriver and take out the screws. Remove the top, but be careful when doing so, because if you take the top off too fast, you could disconnect the wires that lead to the green, red and blue LED lights on the front. Locate the lens (you might have to remove a black plate which sits on top of it), then clean it using a Q-tip and rubbing alcohol. Nothing else should really be used for this. Put it back together and it should be able to read the discs.

Mad Jackyl, before I read your post, I did exactly that. Dismantled the top with my dad, cleaned the dust out, rubbed some rubbing alcohol on the lens, hell I even used some oil lubricant on the metal and the disk drive. The problem was that the driver refused to get the disc spinning so the PS2 could read it. After alot of trial and error, We got it to work, and put back together. There were just so many clots of dust hanging from the piece of coil connecting the lens to the electronics. Builds up after 5 years. It's working fine now. I just hope it lasts for 6 months until the PS3 comes out.
EDIT: It took us about 15 minutes to figure out where the screws were before we popped out the squares on the bottom. So damn confusing.
