Eh. doom and gloom.
In 2005, Microsoft lost four billion dollar in selling the Xbox.
Also it has taken a charge of $1 billion dollars on its June 2007 Income Statement to account for the cost of replacing bricked Xbox 360s.
The ONLY year Microsoft had made money on the Xbox or the Xbox 360 is in late 2007 and so far in 2008. The Xbox division over the years has accumulated probably over twice that in loses.
The PS2 had millions (and maybe billions? i need to find a source) of dollars in losses for its first year or so.
This is nothing new in the gaming industry. The only company to have a profit every single consecutive year is Nintendo, they even had profit during gamecube era (yeah, gamecube lol).
It's just the way business works. You cant expect to make the money you lost quickly.
