Am I the only person on this site looking forward to this! Ive been waiting for this movie for a long time and I;ll finally get to see it in 17 days. I think the only other thing that has given me this much level of hype is MGS4. >< First of all, R.I.P. Heath Ledger. Sucks that he died. But he's going to be forever immortalized by his role as The Joker. He looks absolutely amazing. A Joker like none other. A couple reviews have surfaced about the movie, including Rolling Stone, and everyone agrees, Heath Ledger is the real star of the movie. Time for some trailers! youtube.com/watch?v=PNkPK9yuA9gwww.youtube.com/watch?v=C_-NEBvaJHMA while back... hmm, let me see. Oh yea! It was during I am Legend. In the IMAX version, before the movie they showed a "prologue" of The Dark Knight before I am Legend. And let me tell you it was AMAZING! I had never been to an IMAX theatre before. That thing is HUUUUUGE! From the floor all the way up to the ceiling is that screen, and soooo wide! But anyhoo, movies in IMAX are something else. The very FIRST shot of the prologue showed a building from a helicopter's point of view, slowly zooming towards it. Let me tell you, and this is now joke or exageration, it literally took my breath away. LITERALLY. I gasped for air! And I wasnt the only one, I could hear many people around me going "oh!", "wow", and "damn!" It felt like I was actually flying through the air and not watching a movie. >< The prologue itself was nothing short of amazing. It's like a 5 minute scene of The Joker pulling a bank robbery with some friends, and screwing them in the ass as it goes on. Pretty awesome stuff. The best part is the end where he's about to go away, and the owner of the bank comes out with a freaking shotgun shooting the clowns! I did NOT expect that! lol It was so awesome, the guy's literally about to kill these robbers with just his eyes filled with anger. But he gets shot by the Joker and as he leaves the guy is screaming, "The criminals in this town used to believe in things. Honor. Respect. Look at you! What do you believe in? What do you believe in!" And the Joker leans in and takes off his clown mask, and we get an IMAX size shot of his mug. Scary! His smile is so nasty, it's like a huge cut. And says, "I believe whatever doesn’t kill you simply makes you… stranger." Smiles and leaves in a school bus with the money. Short clips of the movie are shown, the darkness and everyone in the theater is cheering and clapping. lol Funny thing is, many people ONLY went to watch the Prologue. You could see a big bunch of people going for the door after it was over, ignoring the fact that I am Legend was about to start lol. After that experience, Im definitely going to see the Dark Knight in the IMAX. This is a movie I cant miss no matter what. ><

Oh. My. DAMN.
That's gotta be the best movie I have ever seen in my life. I went in with such high expectations because of all the hype... and it was all that and more.
It's a movie that just keeps on giving from beginning to end. Never a dull moment. I watched at 3am and not once did I yawn or looked at my watch. I just wanted it to keep going on forever. Speaking of going at 3am, the whole place was packed! The line to go in extended all the way to the second floor. And after we got out, a whole new line to see the 6am show was waiting.
Damn, Nolan created a masterpiece. It's f*cking awesome! ><
Im going to go see it again tomorrow. But not on a regular theater. Now that I've seen it in IMAX, I cant bring myself to see that movie on a regular theater.

Me and my g/f will try to go tomorrow. We’ll catch an early show to HOPEFULLY reduce the crowd. But yes, I’m looking forward to it very much. Indiana Jones was a bit of a let down for me so I’m hoping this movies saves the summer.
Good to hear that it was good. Now for the big question:
Who is the better Joker? That's the burning question for all!

Im going to have to say Heath is better. But maybe that;s part because I never really liked the Tim Burton Batman movie so much.
But Im just going give a snippet of Roger Ebert's review, concerning Heath, because it's what I think as well: (no spoilers, dont worry)

Well you cant decide until you actually see the new one. The trailers just show a lil of him.
You know, all the trailers dont show the new Joker's funny side. He's actually pretty hilarious. After all, if he wasnt, he wouldnt be The Joker. The pencil magic trick and the hospital scene come to mind. I laughed my ass off in those scenes. ><

I like how the video makes it look like they are actually talking to each other.
"Let's put a smile on that face!" "Ever dance with the Devil in the pale moonlight?"

OK, so I just saw the movie. As A Movie It was a well made film with a sound story and great acting. It works, even if you aren't into Batman. As A Batman Movie No doubt about it... it's the best Batman movie ever made. I've thought that Batman Begins and the 1989 Batman were about equal in quality. This on surpasses them in every way. And the best part is that unlike the original set of movies that started out great and with each sequel go progressively worse this new series seems to get better. I just hope the third installment will continue the trend. Heath Ledger I'm sorry, but I do not agree with all the hype about Ledger's perfomrance. Don't get me wrong, he did an awesome job. But it is not the "masterpiece" everyone makes it out to be. A bit too much hype I think. Joker vs Joker Ah, the burning question... did Ledge outdo Nicholson? Well, it's not easy to compare them. Nicholson's Joker is more stylized and accurate to the traditional image of what Joker has been in most comics and animiation. Ledger's Joker is basically what Joker would be in real life. So it's like comparing an abstract paintings to realistic portraits. I think both performed the role great, but it boils down to which style you prefer. I've always been more of a fan of what Nicholson portraid, to me that's what Joker is. Ledge's Joker reminded me more of the Riddler than of the Joker, but that's just me. His role was VERY appropriate for this movie style and completed the equation. Overall It was great. I'm glad to see this new series of movies not repeating the mistakes of the past. But I am worried a bit about the next one. Ras A'Ghoul was an awesom villain that had the magnitude to be the final villain, but they used him equally well as a mentor in the first movie. Joker... outside perhaps a small cameo, we can't expect it since Ledger died. But even if he didn't, I would want a new villain. So who should the next/final villain be? Riddler is out since I believe Ledger's Joker was a mix of Joker and Riddler. Penguin, Poison Ivy... they suck. Freeze? Catwoman? There is potential there. Having seen the movie makes me appreciate this a lot more: www.youtube.com/watch?v=dqAvubu70Yc

Just saw this movie tonight, and it was great! For a comic book movie. I'm not really into those so much, but like Batman Begins, this was a great take on the man who wears a cowl. Joker was a slick villain too. I did like the story and how they blurred the line more of what a criminal and a hero really is. They kept repeating the motif of how a hero sometimes has to become a villain. Since we're a MGS message board, there are parallels in The Boss and Big Boss' stories too in this regard.
Also, anyone notice the use of the Fulton Air-to-Surface Recovery System? When Lucius was talking about it in the movie as being a CIA tactic used primarily in the 1960's, I was like..."hmm..sounds just like..." and then later it was executed and when the plane swooped in to recover Batman, I was like, "Hell yes, that's awesome!" I was all excited and explained to my cousin sitting next to me that the thing he just saw was an actual thing used several times in the past.

OMG! Yes! I was nudging my g/f, "Hey, that's the MGS3 thing!" She just rolled her eyes... again... Christ I did the same thing. I really prefer Ledger to Nicholson. He was too comical, Ledger you believe is a sociopath and a murderer. This movie DEFINITELY is the best Batman to date. And to clue you guys in, rumor has it the next one would be. BATMAN: Shadow of the Bat I think Nolan hinted at it somewhere or an interview. I think Catwoman is making an appearance in the next to be the new love interest. Tomorrow I think I might be picking up some Batty comics for the hell of it. Namingly the Killing Joke, Batman Year One and TDK returns. AND TO ADD!! I was hysterically laughing when Joker said he was going to make the pencil dissappear and put it in the guys eye. That was priceless. And guys, heres a great poster which is in the first link by lueluxacky cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&item=120285112881I think I may have to order that badass poster.

It was badass. Had I not played MGS3 before, I would've rolled my eyes and said "thats so fake". But I just went with the rest of the people in the theater and "hell yeah!"

Well, I liked the movie. Seen it two times, though, so the "nitpicked annoying" things are more noticeable.
BTW, things I don't mention on the next "nitpicked" list are automatically "a'ok":
1) Bale's a good Batman (I have my favorites... but we are not discussing that here), but he needs to drop that "Snake" tone. Don't get me wrong, I'm all about hiding your voice (since street punks listen to rich playboys all the time...), but you're kindda overdoing it now.
2) WTH happened to the Scarecrow? They made him a total whimp!
3) The Joker's pretty much god in this movie. His predictions are almost flawless and he manages to escape from both the mafia AND the cops with relative ease!
4) Too many explanations for things that could be figured out in far smaller ones. I approve character development at all (again), but when you need three speeches to understand Wayne LIKES Dent, you're kindda overdoing it (again)
5) The ambiguity in Two-Face's "defeat" was WAAAY too ambiguous. I mean, it looks more like a forced "He might be dead... but we might use him if we ever need the money" than an authentic plot development from were I'm standing
6) Alfred burns the last note Reachel ever left. I mean, I GET the why, but I still don't like it. He had no damn right at all to erase a person's last words from the face of the earth (that's just me, though, and its more of a moral thing that anything else)
7) Aragon couldn't pull out a long final speech without people getting bored. What made you think Bale and Oldman could?
Everything else, though: Ledger, the acting, the action sequences, the story... overall, superb flick. Could put all the details, but really, there's nothing to say that it hasn't been said before. (Aaron Eckhart was GREAT!)
It beats Returns (though not by much, though, only because it's not as depressing), Forever (by much), Batman & Robin (how was it not going to beat a friggin' comedy?) and Batman Begins (even by more distance than the one of Forever).
It still doesn't beats Batman 1, though. Simple because, even if I nitpick, Batman 1 doesn't have a lot to complain about, and the only things it really has are things involving its connections to the comics (which isn't much). Of course, this no longer counts since Begins and Dark Knight took comic continuity and forgot all about it (luckily, in a good way).
Bale needs to focus more on getting the Wayne part right, though, as it still looks phoney (apparently the only guy who practiced that side of Batman's life was Kilmer, as (IF YOU ASK ME) he's the only one who got it right). I understand the fact the movie focuses on Batman and it almost doesn't show anything "Waynish", but I'll put it simple: Batman is smart enough to know his alibi must be perfect. If Bruce Wayne is his alibi, he NEEDS to get it perfect. This is, of course, something more of a personal view than anything else (reason why it isn't on the nitpick list), so I can't remove any points for this.
Now, the classic thing... Ledger or Nicholson? Well, I have a very effective way to clear that up (for me, at least): If Ledger had acted on Batman 1 instead of Nicholson, the Joker would still had been very impressive and even MORE scary, EVEN with the old make-up arrangements. If you put Nicholson in the Dark Knight, though... well, you see my point.
I was more impressed by Ledger than Nicholson. Sorry, that's just how I see things.
(NOTE: DAMN! Can't believe I missed all the TUS drama!)
