au.ps3.ign.com/articles/110/1104412p1.htmlIt won't be a new title. No way! It'll be another interquil that ruins the story further. My dislike for him grows with each game. Even with his Metal Gear games he hasn't really done anything NEW since MGS3! MPO and Peace Walker just piggy-back on MGS3. MGS4 is a revisit of all the other games. We really haven't had something NEW since 2004!

Dear Kojima:
Please disappear for 11 years and take Metal Gear with you. The last time you did that, it was amazing. You've got to build up some anticipation and a real longing to play as an old familiar character. This just isn't the time. I don't need another retcon of a character I'm all too familiar with or a new milquetoast hero to play as. What we need is classic MSX-style linearity to the storyline and more gritty reality. None of this superhero lameass stuff in which you have to fight villains more ridiculous than Batman's foes. Let's go back to sneaking, sabotaging enemy plans, plastic explosives, deception and out-of-the-box puzzle-solving. Go back to the drawing board, Kojima!

When did Kojima "disappear" for 11 years?

Oh, you're right philanthropy, it was more like 8 years. Between 1990 and 1998. I was misremembering what he said in the introduction to the Millenium Guide for MGS...he said it'd be 11 years, but now that I looked at it, it was 11 years since he'd created the world of Snake in the original 1987 Metal Gear.

In a way, this announcement helped me to finally decide on the site's final layout. MGS4 was the last game I was going to cover in detail, but Peace Walker tempted me a bit. Now that I finished Peace Walker, saw what Rising is going to be all about, and got an idea of future Kojima medeling, I'm making the decision to keep MGS4 as the final game I covered. Instead of making an Expanded Universe section, I'm going to use that page to create a summary of the rise and fall of the series, at least through my eyes. That will be a nice closing chapter for the site. It'll take some time to write it, but it'll be from the heart. I will also update the History, Supplement, and About pages with a new layout. March 5th, 2011 will mark the 10 anniversary of this site. That's as good of a date as I can think of to wrap it up. Get all the pages up to code and finally close this chapter of my life.

Hey guys! Haven't visited this site for awile, been busy playing Peace Walker.
Anyway, I think Kojima is just losing his mind now.
But I sort of understand him. If he does MGS5, he'll piss off his most dedicated fans, but will meet acclaim from gaming web sites and most of the whole world. If he does a new game, it could possibly not turn out right and cost him his fame.
But I once heard a saying from some guy that said something like "It's not because things fail that we do not try, it's because we don't try that things fail". He should have the balls to do something new. Having fear about something won't make it any better. I wish I could tell him this...

The problem is that he is way too focused on just meeting the technical qualities of a game. Kojima games used to be all about innovation, not just technical quality. I said it a hundred times, nobody makes the most out of a system like Kojima. But MGS4 and MPW are proof that he can't push that series forward creatively. He's not breaking any ground with those games in that respect.
Look back at MG1, Snatcher, MG2, Policenauts, MGS1, MGS2... Those games were all about out-of-the-box thinking and creativity. Putting the technical qualities aside, which were great, the games were a conceptual brilliance. The same can't be said for MGS4 and MPW. While both games are probably the best you can do technially on those systems, conceptually they are tired and rehashed with nothing conceptual to separate them from the games we see in the market today.
I think Kojima needs to walk away from Metal Gear before he runs it into the ground. There is nothing special about these games. MGS4 made a big stir in 2008, but it's forgotten now. Yet people still talk about MGS1. Even MGS2 is remembered. That's a sign of bad things to come. His projects are becoming more trivial and less unique.

OK dude, now you're kinda contradicting yourself. Go read some of your old threads and see how you praise MGS4. Have you suddenly changed your opinion?

I praised MGS4 when many said it was no good. It was a good game. But it wasn't anything special like old Kojima projects. Technologically it's the most impressive video game ever IMO. And the story is fine for what it is, a conclusion and an attempt to link up all the loose ends that the series is so well known for. I don't think it would be possible to have a better plot that can unite all the games. So in that respect MGS4 did what it was suppose to do. But there wasn't anything about that was new and out of the box thinking. It was a conclusion, a colmination of all the past projects and ideas. So it's excusable. But because it wasn't revolutionary in new concepts it will not be remembered as some of the other Kojima works are.
There are many way of looking at things, not just black and white, like and don't like. There are many factors to consider. The series is a large one now and with such a heavy plot you can't just look at individual games, you have to consider how it fits with the others.

I hope it takes an unexpected twist from the first few seasons. A lot of video games are only fun if the plot is changed.

Well the gameplay will be very different. You're controlling a cyborg, so the sneaking will not be the same. I'm sure it'll be along the lines of Arkham Assylum, where you can do something on the walls to avoid enemies. But I think we can safely say goodbye to the cardboard box.

I have MGS4 on a slightly higher regard. For me, Metal Gear Solid 1 and 2 were just 3D versions of Metal Gear 2: Solid Snake with minor improvements (mostly the "grab" action). MGS3 was all about CQC and cammo, which was quite nice, and it being being the first game without a "soliton radar" made the whole thing quite challenging too, which was awesome indeed. MGS4 streamlined the gameplay for me, made it a bit more technical and slower (I'm always in for anything that takes stealth to the next level anyway).
At least that's how I feel about it. I never really felt the cammo and CQC were implemented to their fullest on MGS3, and I always thought MGS4 took the right direction in making it more complete yet not cumbersome. The store felt a little gimicky, but it didn't hurt that much.
Now then, I've read the whole thing and I'm REALLY hyped up for more stealthy gameplay. Kojima promised a revolution and I do hope he brings it. He isn't sure if it will be a MGS5 or a brand new title (which I guess I understand) and... who knows, really? Since I'm a big fat mark for "alternate universes" (or "expanded"... or whatever), here's hoping for the new game to be a Ghost Babel sequel, xD
The only thing I DO ask is... PLEASE, let Snake rest already (if te standard canon is used). His story (and I'm sure we all can agree with this) is pretty much DONE. Unless you want to do yet another "alternate universe" (what would have happened if Snake hadn't grow old? Although, I've always thought Ghost Babel was supposed to be that variable, since there doesn't seem to be any Patriots back then)... which would be fine too.
