Any thoughts on the MGS HD Collection? On the one hand I think it's great that they are doing this, but it does feel rushed. If they are going to include MG1 and MG2, why not MGS1? Just seems strange to do that. Still, I'm sure I'll be picking it up.

Pretty cool and I may buy it, since I rarely break out the PS2 now, so I'll be glad for that. I thought you already knew why MGS1 wasn't going to be included, this is MGS HD collection - MGS1 is impossible to up-res to anything close to HD without looking like a pixelated lego-like mess. It wouldn't meet the criteria for an HD collection.

I'm mostly looking forward to the fact I can play all the games on the Same console (except Portable OPs Which I did not like at all), My old PS2 is gettin a bit long in the tooth.

Honestly, I don't believe that. The game looked smooth and not pixilated when it was ported on the PC. I see no reason why they can't do it the same way. It would not be widescreen, but then again neither will MG1 and MG2, which are included in the collection.

I don't see why they couldn't keep the gameplay exactly the same, but Redo the 2d art like MGS2 &3 and if possible change the Character/3d models to make them look good in HD and definately keep the original voices and soundtracks (remaster them?) The Twin Snakes not only stuffed up the voice acting but also suffered on the music front!

My suggestion is to do what I did. I put together a nice little pack. 1. Buy the 2006 MGS Essential Collection. 2. Buy the DVD set of Lord of the Rings. The colors of the DVD boxes are Red, Blue, and Gree, same as the cover art on the MGS Essential Collection art. 3. To this set add MGS VR Missions Disk, The Document of MGS2, and the second disk of MGS3 Subsistence (to have MG1 and MG2). In those three steps you will have all you need of the first 5 main games. Simply add MGS4 to it and you got the whole SAGA. I got the original PS3, so all PS2 and PS1 disks play in it. Though actually, I still have the original gray PSone and PS2 as well... still hooked up and used.

We don't need remakes. We need them to properly preserve the originals.

We don't need remakes. We need them to properly preserve the originals. Notice the quotations I put on the word remake. Look into what OoT3D really is, then post back.

No you dont. Its not a "remake", its an upgraded version of the original. Its not like Twin Snakes where EVERYTHING got changed. In OoT3D, the only thing they did was redraw from scratch the character and enviroment models. Aside from a an easier interface to use items due to the DS's secondary screen, the game plays the exact same. Same gameplay, same soundtrack, same sound effects, same everything. Not even the animation has been changed, just the polygons themselves. This is what MGS would benefit from; keep everything the same, from voice acting to the outdated control schemes, just redo the graphics to look more modern. No changes to gameplay or plot. Just upgraded graphics. And viola, you got your MGS HD.

And again, I knew what you meant. And I prefer to keep it as is. It was already a stretch that they redrew the characters in MG2, I would not want MGS1 changed. It looks great on the PSP. All I want is for them to soften the edges so the PS3 doesn't sharpen it as much.

It was already a stretch that they redrew the characters in MG2 HA HA! After all this years, I just KNEW sooner or later you'll come around to also feel awkward with those! Also, I REALLY don't agree with the PC transition of the first MG to look smooth at all. Snow was made out of cubes and there was some legendary frame rate issues due to all them' polygons being way more polished than they were designed to. No, I say, stay with the PSN version and just let the original be. Don't go HD with a game that wasn't designed to be HD to begin with. It's no secret that Metal Gear Solid used PLENTY of ghosting, and it was for a very good reason. And now I have a reason to buy it myself,

Well, I wouldn't say that. I still prefer the new art over the original. I always (even before the updates) hated that they looked like actors. My only gripe is that they cheapened out and not brough it the eye and mouth animations.
