Liquid and Ocelot

So I'm in the tail end of Chapter 1 of Phantom Pain and Eli is causing issues at the Mother Base. At one point Ocelot really puts him in his place:



This made me see yet another issue with the story. This time it's clashing with MGS1. Given what is shown in MGS5, there is no way Ocelot and Liquid would behave the way they did towards each other in MGS1. The only way MGS1 works is if Liquid does not know Ocelot's real backstory. But with Eli knowing how loyal Ocelot is to Big Boss the whole thing doesn't fit.

Well, there's 21 years between these two events. Liquid obviously becomes more calm and calculating in the ensuing years. And we don't see what exactly happens to these characters, how they meet each other again, what Liquid exactly thinks of Ocelot (obviously not that highly as he is patronizing him, telling him not to kill his victims etc.). So, I don't think it's that big of a deal. Nitpicking.

Not nitpicking, observing. Ocelot being part of a FoxHound in 2005 suggesting to Liquid to take over Shadow Moses would've been a huge red flag. Plus, Ocelot calling him Boss just doesn't work after what we see in MGS5.

And again, we don't know what happened in 20 years. A lot can happen in 20 years. I admit Ocelot didn't quite fit the characterisation from earlier installments, but in the end, he had a hidden agenda and was probably using Venom Snake as much as Big Boss (used Venom Snake). And you also have to remember, Ocelot was using Liquid in MGS1 and playing a part.

That's what was missing in him in MGS5. He was a good guy. Talking about how he was worried about the escaped kids.... just not Ocelot. Everything that other games made compelling about him was gone.
