The series turns 30 years old this July. Any predictions?

Well, I dunno myself. Given that you think more instalments added less to the series, the future games will simply be "erasing the big reveals, watering down significant moments, and exploiting emotional moments of the earlier games", as you mentioned in an earlier topic.

I was thinking more of a collection release on PS4.

I doubt it would actually happen with the release of the Legacy collection.

The series turns 30 years old this July. Any predictions? For this year? Probably Metal Gear Survive. Will there be a collection? I don't think so. I think bringing the HD collection to PS4 would be a fairly easy task and that's the best we can hope for. However, remastering MGS1 and/or Twin Snakes would take more of an effort. As for MGS1: since it seems to exist only as a PS1 file, I see not much hope in bringing that to HD. They could use the PC version as a basis, but I think that isn't really a viable option because the graphics would still be blocky 1998 graphics with low resolution textures and while I and at least A.G. would definitely like to see those in HD, I guess many casual fans and the potentially new audience wouldn't want that. The alternative would be remastering Twin Snakes, which still belongs to Nintendo as far as I know, so Konami would need to make a deal with Nintendo, and possibly the developer Silicon Knights, first. Then the textures need to be updated which would all mean a lot of costs and besides many fans consider Twin Snakes an inferior version of MGS1 anyway, so... As for MGS4: I think because it was specifically designed with the whacky arcitecture of the PS3 in mind, it would be extremely difficult to port it to any other system. Which is why it was never released on the Xbox 360 or even the PC. So, no hopes here, since I doubt Konami really wants to put too much effort and money into such a project. As for predictions for the future of Metal Gear: I don't have high hopes, right now. For me, the series ended when Kojima left it. Maybe we get the Hollywood film, but as video game adaptations go, it has a good chance of being bad. Also, I would love a sequel for Metal Gear Rising and I would be even curious for a reboot, if they get some good new talent to do it. But again, since Konami seems to have lost interest in designing games and focuses on more "lucrative" markets (e.g. Pachislot machines), I don't believe there will be a new game anytime soon.

I agree with that in general. Games made into movies, broadly, got a negative reception.

And rightfully so. Even Assassin's Creed, probably the one property most suitable for movie adaptation, apperantly got it wrong. THough, I admit, I haven't seen the film, yet.

Well, go to this link, and you'll see that an MG movie was supposed to be made ages ago but nothing materialised from that.

I think I read that Kojima was actually holding production back, because the filmmakers were just making crap. But that's just rumor-level info.
Back to topic: Metal Gear seems pretty dead right now.

Then again, movie makers turn ALMOST ANY GAME into a pile of bullsh*t. Check out this link... almost all the adaptations are crap. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_films_based_on_video_gamesAnd again, I concur with this.

It needed to end back in 2008. Sure, MGS4 was far from perfect but it offered closure to a story that was already getting bloated and polarizing. That was the time to focus efforts on a new IP. But I guess after the failed run of ZOE Konami wasn't going to take another chance.
It's disappointing that the 30th anniversary of this series will see nothing. It's a dumb move since it's the last chance they have to cash in on the series.

True. In terms of story Kojima's ability to hold audience interest became weak past MGS3. MGS4 ONLY works if you really like MGS1-3. As a stand alone game it has a rather illogical story. It's a nice way to end the series, but on its own the plot generates less attention than than the first 3. And neither are Peace Walker nor MGS5 doing anything of benefit.

Yeah. I think PW was a great spin-off. And for a long time I wasn't really sure how to treat this game, even though I liked it quite a lot. As for MGSV: I think the game would have benefitted from being a new IP. Not having ties to the Metal Gear name and the convoluted continuity would have been great. In this casse it really seemed more like a hinderance than a benefit. a .G.: last chance? Nah... Maybe for now and for the core metal gear fan as an audience. But if they release a halfway decent game down the line and make it a reboot and market and hype the sh*t out of it, they'll sell. But that probably won't be my or your Metal Gear.

However much fun PW may contain, it basically downplays the significance on MG1 and MG2. Phantom Pain is also doing this with MGS1.

I'm just finishing up MGS2 and I can really see the difference in the overall feel of the games past MGS3. MGS4 was starting to branch out from the set formula but with the old cast it still worked. But beyond that, story and game, just felt different to me. It never clicked.
