One downside I found about my annual replay schedule is the length of the MSX titles. I don’t game much these days, but when I do I still want to spend some time with the game. MGS1, 2, 3 and 4 have enough content in their respective months. But the MSX titles struggle. Especially MG1. The game is about 2.5 hours. Making it my Metal Gear for October is a bit hollow. But I found a good solution! MGS2 VR missions! Specifically the Pliskin missions. Pliskin attire was a tribute to the MSX days of Snake. So in a way, you play as a 3D version of that Snake. I spaced out my gaming over three weekends. About 30 min of MG1 and then supplement the rest with Pliskin VR. It works well. You don’t feel a disconnect and the MSX feel stretches easily over three weeks. I plan on doing the same with MG2 in December. It’s a good solution to put the MSX titles on the same level as the other installments. Side note. Having MGS5 shoehorn the notion that it’s actual Venom Snake at the end of the game just doesn’t work. Even with 2D you see rolled up sleeves and the character has both arms. No mechanical prosthetic.
