All fan love for Metal Gear aside, I still say that the MGS2 hype was crazier. I mean, they crashed the Konami surver by downloading just that one single trailer, over and over.

Halo 2's hype was bigger to me. Metal Gear is a very underappreciated series, and a lot of people didn't like the whole thing where the game actually tells a story (because they are idiots). Idiots who bought whatever game was shoved down their throats went nuts over Halo and it was a lot more publicized. It was on every magazine cover, every website, there were previews for it in movie theaters all over the country, billboards with the Master Chief plastered on. Even the entire subiminal commercial (www.ilovebees.com was seen in one commercial and still remains somewhat of a mystery) I would say Halo 2 was hyped a lot more, and sadly, played a lot more.

When the Halo demo was playable in the gameshops almost everybody I knew went out to play the demo like there life's depend on it. And that wasn't with MGS2. And like The Soldier says, the main reason could be that Halo was publicized like hell! There wasn't a day where I didn't see a Halo commercial, I saw it in magz, on drinks, on billboards, almost on every game website you would see something of Halo, etc. etc.

I didn't even read anyother posts this really pissed me off. Stop being so freaking bias towards MG. CAlling everyone else idiots just because they dont agree with you it makes you sounds like a jackass. I don't recall anyone waiting outside of stores for MGS2.

I am calling the general public idiots because they, in fact, are. Big surprise. The general public is a very suggestible one. Just get a few people who seem like they're experts to praise something, and BAM! they all join in like the mindless media-driven drones they are. It's not a personal attack on you, quit being such a martyr.

I think that it's only logical to compare Halo 1 to Metal gear Solid 2 and Halo 2 to Metal Gear Solid 3.
MGS2 and Halo 2 came out 2-3 years separate each other, little amount of PS2 players knew what metal gear was, while Halo 2, being a secure to a game that was also "Next Generation", it was easy to at least think that you would be getting relatively similar game play.
With MSG2, for non-fans, it would have been somewhat harder to tell what to expect. Consider that many people were playing games for the first time when "Next Gen" systems first came out.
Anyway, I picked MSG2 because I think that the only reason why we saw much hype for these games is the fact that Microsoft has a limitless advertising budget.

The ilovebees counter used to count down to the release of Halo 2. There were apparently a bunch of other things that people found out using tiny clues in this "game"

Absolutely not.
In 2001 fans were already hyper on Metal Gear after the success of MGS1. Halo was a newcommer, unknown.
In 2004 fans lost interest in Metal Gear after MGS2 and were hyper about Halo 2 after the success of Halo 1.
It is only logical to compare the peak of Halo popularity (2003-4) with the peak of Metal Gear popularity (2000-1).
In 2003-4 Metal Gear was not were it was in 2000-1.
