I posted this recently in another topic, so I thought I'de expand on it here.
I was never happy with the way they made Metal Gear Solid 2 Substance. I felt that the VR Missions were a waste. We had that in Integral, why bring that back? Instead, give the fans what they REALLY wanted and make a hell of a lot more money in the process.
My idea for Substance:
1. The Expanded Tanker Mission 2. Snake's Part In The Big Shell 3. Boss Survival/Casting Theater 4. Skating Mini-game 5. A Few VR Missions
As you all know, the Tanker mission was cropped for the final game. The ending part where Snake is running from the water in the sinking tanker, as it was shown in the trailers, was removed. No doubt due to constrains in size. I'm sure they couldn't put that in and fit the Big Shell part. Again, this is 2000-01 technology. Now I'm sure they could.
So why not have the Snake mission be an hour or two shorter than the Raiden mission and expand the Tanker part. We don't need the Raiden mission, we have in Sons of Liberty.
Honestly, which would you rather have, my idea or the way they did it?
The VR missions worked well in expanding Metal Gear Solid 1 because in terms of story it was complete. It was a great game on it's own. So adding those VR missions just added more flavor.
MGS2 was far from complete with a lot of upset fans. Why not give them what they wanted instead of trying to mask the flaws with loads of VR? That's why the Substance sales were dreadful.

That's exactly what I thought they would bring us, what the fans really wanted. I think your Substance version is a lot better!

What the hell are you talking about? That's a silly idea. You talk as if you were a n00b, Arsenal, honestly.
And you write you want a few VR Missions. Well, just play a couple of the 300 you got, and you have a "few". And there was Skating and there was Boss Survival and Casting Theater.
Snake's part in the Big Shell would a new game. That would take another two years. The Tanker part is great as it is.

The thing with the sinking tanker was dropped because Kojima himself said that, while it was feasible, it just wasn't fun. All you did was run away from water, and if you couldn't get away and the water caught up with you, you drowned. He felt that wasn't exciting enough to have as a playable part.

That is a good thing but too bad it won't happen.
Expanded Tanker?

What about the harrier fight scene on the bridge that was shown in a few trailers?

So? Take the time and do it right instead of release half-baked, slapped together in at the last minute junk.

Play Shell 2 as Plisken, then in the later game Snake 2. More Snake Tales, with Voice Actors! 3. extra bosses i saw in some screenshots in late 2002 of Substance, and i saw Plisken in the Kasatka aiding Raiden with the grenadier support, never seen in the actual Substance game more hyped screenshots in which i saw Plisken fighting Ocelot on the heliport roof, never ever seen in the actual Substance game i felt ripped off, and then there was the Snake Tales, cool you gotta play as Snake in the MGS1 costume which was later ported to GameCube, but there was no voice acting, only scripted lines that were split up into over 13 pages at one point, and then again there wasn't even that manyt Snake Tales Extra Bosses, i would have loved to fight Chinaman but he was cut from the original SOL game, they could've fitted him into Boss Survival in Substance and wouldn't ya have loved to play as Plisken in Shell 2, going around to Struts H and I disposing Fatman's C4 and being right there when Plisken freezes that last C4 before the real damage prone otherless C4 gets activated and blows Stilman out of it, sure they could of even had a timer for when Plisken was running away from Strut H before he got knocked out this is what people could've had, but Konami was mad for the money and had Substance rushed, and now we'll proberly never see these dreams cause Substance 2 aint commin' out any time soon

good point, after all it was only a money spinner for Konami, Kojima's only part in it was writing Snake Tales

Kojima's only part was to produce, direct and design Substance... He was as involved in that game as he was in SoL. By the way, didn't your Source tell you that Tomokazu Fukushima wrote the Snake Tales?

Hey kid, if you want to drop the Source topic then drop it!!!!
Really, I will bet a 100 bucks that there will not be a substance for MGS3.
