I myself didn't have a problem with this. I thought it was spot-on like everything else. I never got frustrated or angry or anything.
But still, I think it could be interesting with the Subsistence camera.
Was the original camera in MGS3 really that bad as everyone is saying? In MGS2 the camera was art. It was like playing a movie.

I never had a problem with the camera mode. I always love how they stick with it even through 3 "Solid" titles. The new camera mode that's going to be used in Subsistence is going to be to simple, every game has it. It's not unique anymore. I would say they have to stick with the old classic camera mode they always use.

It was really hard to see around you.
Also, having the camera closer behind you helps...

it took me a little while to get used to the camera angle in MGS3 (the first MGS i played), but after that i had no problems whatsoever

I did simply because you couldn't see what was in front of you or behind you.
I just didn't feel comfortable with it.

3rd person view will be a must in multiplayer.
think of all the full-proof camping spots that are possible in the original camera angle

it was cool to be hiding in the corner with your camo and .45 and survival knife but still having the camera looking at the walkway seeing the enemy soldior just getting ready to get his neck slit

The 3rd person camera will be welcome in my eyes. However, I can't help but love the old one. It was so cool to be stuck with that one angle, not knowing what was around the next corner. I loved the tense feeling it could bring up.

If they wan't to keep their system unique, they could go the Residen't evil 4 approach. It was new but it still felt much like a Resident Evil game. It shouldn't copy it exactly necessarily, but something similar wouldn't hurt. Splinter Cell 3's camera is very good, but i don't want MGS4 resembling Splinter Cell. I want something special.

The Subsistence camera can be changed between Classic and Third-Person on the fly from what I've heard. I hope so, cause there are times when I like and times when I hate that camera.

The most likley thing would be pressing R3 to switch instead of using it to lock in camera position in classic view.
