Nah, that's weren't what they were for. Metal Gear RAY didn't even exist in concept, and REX was merely a few drawings. The statues were just easter eggs. Do you have any idea how different ZOE is? The statues weren't meant to be taken seriously as part of the continuity.
Gurlokovich only said that the technology to make Metal Gear was russian, not that they were Russian-made weapons. They were built right here in the USA.

but the concepts came from Russia....the technology was paid for with whatever money the russians had from the philosopher's legacy and i believe there were some RAY drawings in the game too, i'm pretty sure they were.

No, they were just REX. I watched that scene five minutes ago, it was just drawings of REX.

No, the one with Granin. The ones Sokolov were burning were just sketches of Shagohod, it's weapons, etc.

oh...despite that, the models could still be concepts he originally created. Why else would they be there. I'll admit Jehuty was for show but REX and RAY were there to show off the godfather of metal gears and how Volgin, a product of the original philosophers, killed him.

REX may have been placed as a model he built, but I guarantee RAY was not his idea.

If you want the statues to all fit in nicely, then he probably just built them, except for the REX sketches for simple fun. Sort of like thinking way out there.

Granin's issue was metal gears need legs so naturally he designed robots with legs, they just weren't used. Why else would granin even be in the game if he didn't have something to do with the creation of the metal gears. Granin created those metal gears for Volgin but they didn't want anything to do with it. That was the whole point of that scene, to show how the Metal Gear REX and RAY were created and rejected. I think it's silly to think that he had nothing to do with their invention. So far no one has stated who designed those two metal gears other than Granin. Maybe Ocelot's grandfather might have had something to do with it but i don't know.

You've got it now, dirtyeskimo. Granin never actually had those designs built, he sent them to his friend in the states, most likely Otacon's grandfather, and they were made later.
