In MGS2 Tanker - Liquid/Ocelot: "Our genetic material is vitage, brother. Big Boss was in his late fifties when they created his copies".
So, in 1972 Big Boss was in his late fifties? How does that work when he looks in his mid thirties in 1964?
In MG2 (1999) he is listed to be in his 70's. That BARELY accomidates his appearance in MGS3.
So what gives? A flaw in Kojima's design?

Well, first of all, Hideo had no idea one day he's be doing MGS3, so that's why he was in his 70's in MG2. MG2 was in 1999, and he was cloned in the 1970's, thats about 20 something age difference; 70's-20's=50's like Liquid said. But as I stated, Hideo neevr thought back then about making a game about Big Boss, so he had to do some changes(duh)... I swear, dont take it the wrong way AG, but as you get older, you just keep looking for flaws in the series. Just leave it already.

Your point? MG is a detail-oriented series. I like to find things that don't add up.

My point is that people make mistakes. Yes, even Hideo is human.

AG! I got another one for you!
Remember in Snake Eater, when Ocelot shoots out Big Boss' eye? Well, on SS, Kessler tells Snake that Big Boss loses his eye in the Outer Heaven fire.

That one I can allow to slide. I mean, anything given in MG and MG2 may be inacurate since Kojima had no further plans for the series after that. But things given in MGS2... that's a different story.

We can assume that "Late fifties" is anywhere from 56-59 years old. Let's say 56 (which is a bit of a stretch, that would be more "mid," but hey). The cloning took place in 1972.
1972 - 1964 = 8 years.
56 - 8 = 48.
So Big Boss was at the youngest 48 during Operation Snake Eater. Maybe stretch that down to 47, but that definitely makes '72 a "mid" rather than "late" fifties thing.
So let's say 48 in 1964.
1999 - 1964 = 35 years.
48 + 35 = 83.
So he's no younger than 83 in MG2:SS. Which means he has to be 79 in MG, due to the 4-year gap ('95-'99).
MGS3 - 48. MG - 79 MG2 - 83
This also puts his birthdate at 1916.
Well, I think I'm done with the math ... I'll let you guys decide what to do with it.

The flaw in all this is the fact that Big Boss does not look like he is in his 40's, yet alone mid to late 40's, in Snake Eater. He looks mid 30's.
Let's say:
1964: 33-37 (Snake Eater) 1972: 41-45 1995: 64-68 (Outer Heave) 1999: 68-72 (Zanzibar Land) 2005: 74-78 (Shadow Moses)
Now, in the MGS guide Big Boss's age is listed as in his 70's. So, he is in his 70's during the Shadow Moses mission in 2005.
That works out realisticly to his appearance in Snake Eater and makes the Liquid comment inacurate.

Now, in the MGS guide Big Boss's age is listed as in his 70's. So, he is in his 70's during the Shadow Moses mission in 2005. Wait, what? How can Big Boss "be" in his 70's when he's dead? Dont you mean that he was in his 70's when he died? 70's (from MG2:SS, 1999) minus 27 years ( cause the cloning project was in 1972)... 70's minus 27...thats around min-40's Now, let's say he is around 71 in MG2 (since he's in his 70's, doesnt say late not mid)... that's in 1999, minus 1964 (snake eater).. that's 35. 35 minus 71 is....36. What do you know! It fits in the mid-30's category. My point once again: big deal. Hideo makes a mistake...OMG it's the end of the world! Besides, how do we know that Liquid knows for sure Big Boss's actual age?

BTW, Kasler also said that it was only a rumor (hinting at that Snatcher cameo bit). And Big Boss is shown with the eyepatch in the Metal Gear 1 character art.

Big Boss might only look like he is in his thrities, but that's probably because a life of elite military training has kept him in peak physical condition at the time. Keeping your body in shape helps you live longer and usually makes one look younger. Just look at Jack LaLane.
