What do you guys think of the graphic leap from PS2 to PS3, specifically with the MGS2/3 to MGS4 example?
We all know that the 2D to 3D is the greatest jump possible. And PSone to PS2 was second biggest.
But looking at MGS3, perhaps the most impressive visual product of the PS2, I really don't think the current jump is all that big. Sure, they can put more details in the sheer scale of the game, but not appearance. Yeah, MGS4 looks real, but so does MGS3, and 2 for that matter. You take the best graphical parts of those 3 games and compare them. They all look real. Sure the new one will be sharper and have more slight details, but c'mon. It's not THAT big of an improvement.
In that respect, I gotta give Kojima credit. He is thinking in the right direction, as usual. Why keep trying to make things LOOK real, we did that in 2001. This time, actually make them FEEL real. However, in terms of visuals, I think that we've gone as far as we could. Sure they can add bits and pieces here and there, but for the most part, we achieved the appearance of reality.

I agree, I would still be happy playing MGS3 graphics but just want more and more environment interaction. Every time you play its a different experience.

I agree fully with black. Having the MGS4 graphics looking sharp as hell isn't problem, it's how much the enviroment will play into the game.
