I think Rex's armor is better. And I think that the laser would do just as much damage to Ray as the hydro cannon to Rex.
To me it's like Lion vs Tiger. Rex got the power but Ray got the agility.

No, it was build to be able to work in a group and as a group be able to deafeat other Metal Gears and protect Arsenal Gear, it's primary reason of excistence.

Nope, ytou're wrong. It was built to take on the rest of the MG's around the world. The Patriots stole it because the RAY project was not their own, and they just mass produced it to protect AG. But its original purpose was to stop the spread of all MG variations.

I know that's what Scott Dolph said, but I don't believe him. I don't think RAY was developed by the Marines without the influence of the Patriots. I mean, they run the whole friggin' country, and you tell me the Marines build stuff potentially dangerous to them under their noses? Forget it. RAY was build under orders from the Patriots.
And they probably had the whole Arsenal Gear with RAY protection planned, so I think RAY was designed as a horde creature in the first place.

When the Prez dies, and you have that long codec convo with Snake and Otacon, when they're explaining what happened two years ago, Otacon tells Raiden that the RAY project wasnt part of the Patriots' plan, so they decided to hijack it.

Well, no I don't. I can't believe that an organisation as powerfull as the Patriots, which as Ocelot explains, has a major influence (if not total control) in politics, militry en economy, did not know about RAY until it was actually in development. That would mean the Marines somehow mislead the Patriots. No way. RAY was planned by the Patriots.

Then it would've been stated as so in the game. Why? I think there's quite a lot of stuff not yet explained, and there might also be things we take for granted that aren't what they seem... I think we all agree you never know anything a 100% certain with Kojima. |

Yeah okay there could be some secret ones and all, but in terms of our knowledge, and what this thread is about, RAY could def take a shot from REX's laser and keep on truckin.

There isn't any direct proof since we never actually fought the Marine RAY. The Navy replicants were weak, seeing how Solidus was taking them out with his gun, and with ease. There is no doubt that REX is far superior to the Navy replicants. And as far as we know, accept for the pilot/AI change, that was the only difference between the Marine prototype and the replicants. There is no proof given in the game that the Marine RAY is any better than the mass-produced versions.
It's not proof G2, it's LACK of proof to support RAY. You assume that everyone built a REX after Shadow Moses, but that may not be true. There were countless Metal Gear variations, and I doubt any of them were onpar with REX given the fact that it was US Army project.
RAY is more mobile, no question there. But I think that REX's armor is better. If the two were to colide head on head, RAY would get the worse of that crash. And their weaponry isn't really a dicisive factor. The cutting lazer and the hydro cannon are equally devastating.
