About the SDV and Docks in MGS

I've written twenty-seven pages so far of my novelization of the MGS story (yeah, it's getting worn out that story ), but now I've ran into a little problem. I've come to where Snake will use the SDV (Swimmer Delivery Vehicle) to get to Shadow Moses.

I have absolutely no idea how to formulate this chapter! How does it look inside the SDV? How does Snake get inside it? Should I start with him dressing up in the sneaking suit? (He's been naked up to this point.) And what exactly is the Docks? What's it used for? What type of boats travel in and out of it? What's in the containers?

This chapter won't have to be very long, I just want to paint the picture of Snake entering Shadow Moses. I'll describe the guards in the white uniforms here, so I won't have to do the next chapter (where he gets up to ground level with the elevator) too long. Liquid will make his second appearance in the novel in this chapter (I put the scene where they had accidentally killed the DARPA chief as chapter number three in the book), so I'm thinking of how I'll describe him. Did Snake hear what he said to the guards, or should a make a stand alone paragraph for when he leaves in the elevator?

Also, about the sneaking suit; does anyone know a good place for information about real life counterparts to the suit? I've found information about the prototype of the suit Raiden is using in SoL, but I don't really need it. If anyone could help me find something about Snake's suit, that'd be great.

I'm pretty faithful to the original story, so Snake goes in unarmed. BUT, I think I'll have him procure the SOCOM down in the Docks, that way I can cut some length of the Hind-D-chapter. I don't know how I'll do it though, if Snake takes it from one of the guards (do they even wear SOCOMs?) or if he finds some kind of weapons crate. Any suggestions?

If you have any questions about this novelization, just ask. Unfortunately it's not in english, otherwise I'd love to offer a preview to all of you.

I don't blame you for thinking that this is just another one of them doomed "I'm writing a novel"-projects. But I've been working on this for weeks and done tons of research, and I'm doing my own interpretation of the story, so while it's a faithful recreation of the game as literature, it still has some of my artistic touches, so to speak, ;D, meaning it's hopefully fun for even MGS-veterans to read it once I'm done. Seeing how much text I've produced for just this little part of the game, I think I will end up with circa 600 pages. Anyway, hope you don't doubt me too much.

This won't really answer your question, but I have a suggestion.

Why not write about the event prior and right after Shadow Moses? We already know what happened during the mission, GOD do we EVER know! But how about writing, in detail, about Snake's life in Alaska. The nightmares, the stress, the alcahol... And then cut into the part where the game ends. Leaving with Meryl, disappearing, reuniting with Otacon. You know, things people don't know. I say, add to the story, not repeat it. And if you're taking it seriously (at 27 pages I would say you are), this could turn out as a great addition.

Speaking of which, this gives me another idea. If any of you want to submit some detail, well-written, fanfiction that goes around the main games, I may make an MGF section for that. People can read what happens before, after, and in-between the games.

I think that would be an awesome addition to the series.

Really, really good ideas you have there. Damn, I'll have to consider it for sure. It would be cool to dig deep in the character of Snake, him suffering from PTSD, and the nightmares.

How about a short story starring Snake where we follow him at his cabin in Alaska, having nightmares about his previous assignments (Outer Heaven and Zanzibar) and maybe something from his time as a CIA agent and hitman. In the Millennium Guide, it says in his biography that he befriended an eskimo. How about presenting Snake as more of a person rather than a soldier, with friends (though few) and personal problems, rather than having the faith of the world put on his shoulders. I'll think about it some more. More ideas would be appreciated.

But, I've worked really hard on the current novel, and throwing it away would be too painful. The idea behind the novel is to have non-playing people (like my mother) experience the lovely story without having to play the game. But I could definitely put it on ice and write the short story, because I loved the idea. It's pretty original too, I haven't seen something similar on the net.

And if you get enough material, you should no doubt create such a section. I'd contribute.

Also try making a story about his other missions with Philantropy that don't follow the story of MGS2.
