The further they go with the prequals, the more I feel they downplay Metal Gear 1.
In Snake Eater they show early plans for Metal Gear. And it's REX, which makes no sense at all. TX-55 was the first Metal Gear and the plans should've shown it. Otacon created REX. How can his ideas (visually) be identical to Granin's? Otacon was inpired by Anime, as the result you had REX. That is the first of the inacuracies of these prequals.
Moving on to Portable Ops. There are a couple of things. First, and again, it's Metal Gear. All fans expect to fight a Metal Gear at the end of the game, so how can that happen in Ops. TX-55 is the first Metal Gear, and it was a 1995 prototype that wasn't even functional yet. So now we'll see a Metal Gear tank in 1970? That makes no sense. Other option is what, another Shagohod? C'mon... Also, look at the FoxHound logo. It is not the logo used in MG and MG2. The took the "modern" MGS logo. Not to mention that Metal Gear 1 stated that FoxHound was created in the early 90's, not 70's. Both Snake Eater and Ops contradict this.
The whole prequal idea is very risky. And I still fail to see the point of Snake Eater. What does it set up in the 15+ hrs of gaming? That Big Boss turned on US due to the situation with the Boss? The Philasophers/Patriots? All of that was explained in the last hour or so of the game.
I just think that Metal Gear 1 has been seriously dented. Things that it introduced have been replaced and/or disregarded.
Granin's plans should've been of TX-55. The FoxHound creation should've been in the early 90's. Portable Ops used the wrong FoxHound logo.
Any thoughts?
