How about the game ends 1-2 years after the gameplay ends with a scene that shows and even more aged Otacon approaching a grave with flowers. Now that's an ending!!! Agree. Like, it wouldn't be obvious how it had come to be, but the scene itself telling so much. I was thinking about how the series would end. But I couldn't come up with an answer. All I know is, that when Kojima steps down, Metal Gear for me has ended. Not the series perhaps, but the feeling. When Kojima makes a Metal Gear game, there's something special about it, something other developers can only dream about to achive if you ask me. The feeling of "this is it."

Then how do you feel about Portable Ops? Kojima did not make that game. Yes, yes, he did write the story. But still, it was not really HIS game.

Well, I haven't played it yet, but I actually feel no need to. I've experienced the story and that's enough this time. I'm aware that some things are told outside the cut-scenes though, am I right? The gameplay on the other hand... Not counting the system for recruiting people, it's almost the same game as Snake Eater (I'm guessing; still, haven't played the game). How about you. Was it the same feeling when you played PO for the first time as when you played, say, MGS3, for the first time?

No, not at that level.
MGS, MGS2, and MGS3 had the by far the most power feelings on the first run though. MG1 and MG2 were played on a crummy computer with a sh*tty emulator. While I was excited to play the, I don't think it was as big. Exapanded games are last on that 'feelings' scale.
MPO was probably at the same level from me as MG1 and MG2. The squad system is definetly a fun thing, but it get's old. The reason for that is that while you can play as dozens of different characters, they all have the same moves. Granted the boss' have special weapons, but still. And each one is very limited, so the fun factor goes away rather fast.
MPO is a good filler game, but an installment it is not.

MPO is a good filler game, but an installment it is not. Well put. That's actually the way I see it too. For me, PO is a filler, but senior filler at least.

Senior Filler? It's the only filler so far....
MPO and MPO2 are the only interquile games the series has.

Didn't realize the meaning of "filler" until now. Sorry. I thought we were talking side games, and I meant that PO is like a side game pro.

Well, a side game is outside the timeline,
Snake's Revenge Ghost Babel Acid Acid2
Portable Ops is a smaller scale of cannon title. It's fully legit and in the main timeline, but given its scale it's more of a filler. Being actually set BETWEEN main intallments it serves mainly to expand on the existing time table as oppose to creating a new chapter.

Next up is "Metal Gear Liquid"!
Seriously, MG is a big name now and it just wont end. Just like FF, it'll just keep growing. Wether it be canon or non-canon games, MG games will continue to come out wether we like it or not.

Nobody said they wouldn't. Though I do believe the the main cannon will end with MGS4.
As for never ending... I think you are wrong on that. Game that are non-cannon are very unsecessful in the market. There many proofs of that over the years... Twin Snakes, Ghost Babel, Acids... I'm sure they'll make more side stories after MGS4, but once they tank in sales the series will be put to rest.

Yeah. And something I think many people do overlook is the possibility of Kojima creating another successful franchise. If that happens, maybe MGS isn't needed as much anymore.

He tried that with Snatcher, Policenauts, Zone of Enders, and Boktai.
The fact is, Metal Gear is his big one, I doubt he'll ever surpass it. At this point the Metal Gear series ranks right up there with Mario, Final Fantasy, and Zelda. It's not easy task to bust out another big one like that just our of the blue.

Yeah, but I have yet to meet someone who have played either Snatcher or Policenauts and not liked it. Well, "like" is the wrong word. Everyone I've talked to who've played those games have loved it. Some people think Kojima hasn't surpassed Snatcher with Metal Gear. Though make no mistake, I agree with you. I don't think Kojima will create something new that will compare to Metal Gear Solid. That being said, I do not think he won't be able to make really, really awesome games.

I'm not desputing the quality of his other games, by no means. I'm talking about the level of popularity and impact on the gaming industry. His other works are NOTHING by comparison to Metal Gear in that aspect.
