More so than many other individual game developers. You know, Kojima worked his way up from assisting game designer (Penguin Adventures) to VD of Konami Japan. That's pretty impressive. What's even more impressive is the fact that even though he had such a high up position, watching over the economy of many other games and even producing some of them, he still kept making his own games.
Now, David Jaffe (I think that's his name) directed God of War. It was a huge success and he was promoted to top dog of his company sort of. In God of War 2 on the other hand, he didn't do much more than to supervise the production. Then we have Richard Rouse III, the man behind The Suffering. He too was promoted to a higher position after the success of his game. Though fortunately he still worked from the inside on The Suffering 2 (thank god).
Last but by no means least, we have the legend of legends in the video game industry. Shigeru Miyamoto. He did some great games back in the days. Today he isn't directly involved in many of the games that bear his name. He's a producer and other stuff like that. Take The Twin Snakes for example. It was called Miyamoto was behind the game, while in fact all he did was to have his name besides Silicon Knights. Pretty much. Though let's not forget he helped design the DS.
Anyways... That's one reason why I like Hideo Kojima so much. He worked his way up to VD of Konami Japan, but then went back to only manage his own team. It's obvious to me that Kojima wants to make games, not make money on them.

Plus I'm sure the corporate environment may not be his cup of tea.
