With the release of Portable Ops, how do you see it fitting into the cannon?
Option 1:
1. Metal Gear 2. Metal Gear 2 Solid Snake 3. Metal Gear Solid 4. Metal Gear Solid 2 Sons of Liberty 5. Metal Gear Solid 3 Snake Eater 6. Metal Gear Solid Portable Ops 7. Metal Gear Solid 4 Guns of the Patriots
Option 2:
1. Metal Gear 2. Metal Gear 2 Solid Snake 3. Metal Gear Solid 4. Metal Gear Solid 2 Sons of Liberty 5. Metal Gear Solid 3 Snake Eater (& Metal Gear Solid Portable Ops) 6. Metal Gear Solid 4 Guns of the Patriots
Do you think it’s a stand-alone installment, on par with the others, or merely an expansion/continuation, and therefore a part of, Metal Gear Solid 3?
Does the series have 6 or 7 Installments?

at this point i seriously got to ask who cares? its just the seventh game of the MGS series. mgs2 and 3 subs are like in the option 2, like extra versions and sh*t, but something like portable ops id say its just another new game.

I don't know actually. If someone tells me to name the games in the Metal Gear-series, I'd say: Metal Gear, Metal Gear 2: Solid Snake, Metal Gear Solid, Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty, Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater, Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots.
Nothing bad agains PO, but it doesn't belong in the family if you ask me.

As I have been working on my Metal Gear trailer video I have had a chance to full around with all the games, one after another. My conclusion about Portable Ops is that it is simply a continuation of MGS3. Just like the Big Shell is still MGS2.
My main reasoning for it is the game design. Regardless of the squad idea, the graphics and the movements are the same. Not to mention that the story of MPO is a direct continuation of MGS3. As such, I consider MPO more of a sub-installment:
1. Metal Gear 2. Metal Gear 2 Solid Snake 3. Metal Gear Solid 4. Metal Gear Solid 2 Sons of Liberty 5. Metal Gear Solid 3 Snake Eater - Metal Gear Solid Portable Ops 6. Metal Gear Solid 4 Guns of the Patriots
