At least for America, maybe. www.thenation.com/doc/20060213/chesterTo summarize the article (though you'd have a better understanding reading the whole thing), various cable and phone companies are basically trying through Congress to gain control of who gets access to the internet, for business and profitable reasons. In their system, those with the most money (companies, big name politicians, and the wealthy American) would get access to the best speeds, while those who wouldn't be able to afford it would be relegated to slower speeds. It would also do away with private media and service providers, who would be seen as competition and whose content seen as "undesirable." In short, they want to own the internet and make you pay for every individual thing you do. I have to say, this is the biggest load of bull I've heard in all my life. I mean.. you can't control something as commonly and freely used as the Internet the way they're planning to. It's like making you pay for air... dry.gif People and companies like these are what make me lose faith in this country sometimes...

Yes, I felt something along those lines too, AG. Information is too readily available, the Patriots need to control this by making access to the internet more regulated *puts on tinfoil hat*

But it's a matter of if the information is reliable, I guess. No one company can control the internet. The internet is basically the world on a screen. Talk with people. Buy stuff, have fun. Just like the world. If someone were to take control of the internet would to control the world.
