Just got back from it.

Well, I went in expecting a stupid slasher movie, and that's what I got. Fairly simple plot and a lot of killing. So, a fun B monster movie.

Spoilers below:





I liked this one over the first one for several reasons:

1. The Predator was as he should be, NOT a good guy.
2. The Predator was much slimmer than the first movie versions, reminicient of the the original. That "bulk" was just not needed.
3. The Predator was more effective agains the Aliens, weapons and hand to hand, unlike the first movie where one alien smoked two Preds right away.
4. They really pushed the "oh wow" moments by having a child die onscreen from a "chest buster". The hint about all those babies at the hospital was a nice touch as well.
5. No open ending, so I don't think we'll see a third one. And I really don't see a need for one.

I can't say I liked the Hybrid. It was rather weak... I mean, one Predator smoked all those Aliens and then went toe to toe with the Hybrid, and really to a draw ending (He stabbed the Hybrid through the head with the claws while the Hybrid impaled him with the tail right before the nukes hit). The Alien Queen would of owned his ass, no question there.

But overall a fun little flick to go to. And being a Predator fan, they redeemed themselves after the first movie.

Bah. I was hopping for something more like the original Arcade Game.

But they give me this... beh.

Since AVP1, I was expecting something either like a) the original comic book (which, to AVP1 credit, it had some things here and there), or/and b) the arcade game made by Capcom years ago which, incredibly enough, was originally conceived as a tie-up to the ORIGINAL AVP (the first script, that is) movie.

Oh. Well, I went in not expecting anything amazing... I got what I expected. I'm not really big on either franchise, so I just went to see monster slasher.

As much as people are bashing it...I loved it. It had moments of the old school films showing up again and something else added. Yes the Predator got the right treatment in this film but the PredAlien not so much. I never remember that kind of a life cycle from it but meh...you got to show something for not having a Queen Alien running around. (Still thinking that one queen is alive) I just wish I never saw the Red Branded trailer so that all the good parts weren't spoiled right away.
