A public "sorry"

OK, so I thought it about and diceded to come and say something...

If I offended anyone with my strong opinions, I'm sorry. I really am. I don't like it when someone is trying to "force" their beliefs on me and I appologies if come across as doing so to others.

To clear the air, here is what I will admit to:

1. Big Metal Gear fan here. It's my favorite game series and I view it as the best example of interactive entertainment. That doesn't really make it so, as others may like something better. However, I do have enough reasons to back up exactly why I see it as the greatest video game series ever. If I offended someone with my "defending" of Metal Gear, I'm sorry.

2. PlayStation... been accused of being a Sony fanboy... I take some offense to that. The 4 PlayStations I own are the only Sony products I have, and 3 of them were bought because of Metal Gear. So, am I a Sony fanboy? No. Am I a PlayStation fanboy? Not really. I support the PlayStation because the best of Metal Gear is on it. So, I don't want you to think I'm putting you down for being a 360 fan or a Nintendo fan. If I have, I'm sorry.

3. MGS4 on the Xbox 360. Heated but still pointless debate. In my eyes, Metal Gear belongs on the PlayStation. Kojima is seeing it the same way. That's how I look at it. Now, if you don't like the PS3 (and there are reasons not to), I can understand your desire for a port. If I seem intollerant to that view, I'm sorry. Now, that does not mean that I think that the PS3 does not deserve MGS4 as an exclusive, not at all. But I have my preferences and others have theirs. I'll leave it at that.

Look, there are two things to remember. First, this is a message board. In the end, it really doesn't matter. Heck, by the end of this year this may not even be an active board as I'm strongly planning to stop after MGS4. So, don't take what I say too seriously. That kinda leads into the second point.... I'm an a-hole. ;D Stubborn and aggressive. That's just the way it is and I doubt it will be changing any time soon. So... if you can't deal with that, I'm sorry.

Bah. Fanboyism issues aside, I've never witnessed you dissing any consoles, besides the usual "implodes every 4 month" of the 360 which is COMMON KNOWLEDGE right now.

Dunno what to think here. To think somebody would not want for a thing of such artistic value (as you yourself have pointed out before) to be released to the most people possible defies any logic I could apply.

Then again, you prefer Playstation Metal Gears above anything else mostly because, to your point of view, past experiences with other consoles haven't been nice (I still say you overexagerate with the X-Box port, but its a moot point), and I CAN understand that.

But, like I always say: "Understanding something doesn't mean I actually agree with it" Specially when I got a chance to play plenty of MG BEFORE Solid (uncle went to study to japan and had both. Came over from time to time, and saw him playing while translating most of the stuff "on the spot" as he played)

I'm a Sony fanboy. Seriously. I've been wanting to play The Elder Scrolls 4, and my buddy has it, but on the 360. I told him I won't play it unless its on the PS3.

See, I think it’s the “artistic” part that makes me want it on the PS3 and I believe this is exactly where we disagree. You look at MGS4 as a work of art... a painting that as many people as possible should see. And I respect that. I, on the other hand, see MGS4 as a Ferrari of the gaming world. Everyone has a “right to get one”, but that doesn’t mean everyone will. You can’t go to Bob’s Car Lot and snag yourself a Ferrari. The Metal Gear series is unique in the world of video games, we as fans know it. The attention to detail, the depth of storytelling and character development, and the overall artistic value of it makes it a gem. And IMO, it belongs on the most extravagant system on the market. Being exclusive gives it sort of a “marquee value” in my eyes. Sort of a, "You can't own an MGS4 on a mere 360". ;D

I don’t much like when a game goes cross-platform, it cheapens it in my eyes. It looks like something everyone can have... plus, as I said before, there is no competition. “Hey we got Zelda!”... “Yeah? Well we got Halo!”... “Yeah?! Well we got Metal Gear”. The notion that not everyone can have it is actually more appealing in my eyes over the “share with all”.

I want it to be enjoyed by as many people as possible, and you want it only for a core audience (the most flamboyant console around, I mean).

BTW, your last sentence there reminded me a lot of the old'e Genesis advertisements back in the 16 bit era, for some reason....

PS3 has enough top-quality exclusives beyond MGS4: GoW III, Little Big Planet, "Home", Uncharted, Resistance, Lair, FF XII

Hell, let'em keep em, I say, I couldn't give any less of a damn: they're good games, and the PS3, bad architecture and all, deserves some good games at least (it is not as terrible as the 32X at least... of course, 32X was never as expensive, huurm...).

But MGS4, for me, is WAAAY beyond any of them. It isn't a simple game (as we both agree): it is art. And as such, Ferrari or no Ferrari ( ;P ), should be able to buy one.

Plus, MGS4 doesn't kill you at full velocity in a crowded city, XD

And that's exactly what I don't like, XD
