Blu-Ray Wins Format War

In case this hasn't reached you all yet, Blu-Ray has apparently won the 'format war' over the competing HD-DVD format. Warner Bros (who incidentally made the news today again by announcing they are cutting 1,000 jobs) announced last Friday that they were switching sides in their exclusivity deal for next-gen format movies from HD-DVD to Blu-Ray.

The last two remaining major studios that were committed to HD-DVD were Warner Bros. and Paramount and now, Financial Times is saying that Paramount may be bowing out as well.

This is great news for Sony. However, this doesn't mean PS3 + Blu-Ray = Microsoft dead in the water. Xbox 360's popular HD DVD add-on (as opposed to Playstation 3's built-in Blu-ray) has sold well for the company, though until recently Microsoft's support of the HD-DVD format has been firm. Microsoft currently has no plans at this time to consider Blu-Ray as an option, but you can bet the bank that they won't let this one just slide by.

What else does this mean? Target is already talking about selling Blu-Ray only, and in a few years you'll be forced to buy a Blu-Ray player so you can rent movies at Blockbuster, even.

I will LMAO though when 360 releases a Blue Ray drive accessory! Talk about eating some humble pie! Especially with their "nose up" early views on the Blue Ray format.

So... PS3 is doomed, heh? LOL! Now you got the ONLY game system that supports the next generation of movie releases... And since Blue Ray players are still pricy, the PS3 sales will go up resulting from this. All the nay-sayers, be prepared. The PS3 is going to pass it's competition with in 2 years. That's my call on it!
