It's the best thing they could do instead of diverting all their resources towards an uphill battle that was nearly impossible to win. This news comes awfully fast on the heels of the announcement made by Wal-Mart two days ago that they were going to drop HD-DVD and carry only Blu-Ray discs come June or July.

That's what happens to poor dumb microsoft for releasing a console without HD DVD compatibility.
We (and by "we", I mean "me") can say a lot of things I hate both the PS3 and Sony's business decisions, but releasing a console with blu-Ray was a brilliant move for those blue thingie's numbers.
What can I say? A pretty dumb mistake by Microsoft and Toshiba gave Sony's format the win almost since the beginning of the race.

Weren't you the one saying that Blu-Ray sucks and that it's not a plus for the PS3? And now that Blu-Ray won suddenly it's a "brilliant move"? LOL!

Im glad HD-DVD got the chop.

Oh, c'mon, now YOU'RE editing my quotes and taking them out of context! Are you trying to imitate anomaly for some reason? *wink* In any case, I said (in the whole quote you apparently forgot to add) those "blue things numbers". I never said I liked IT, and its a pretty well known fact I don't care about any HD format whatsoever (pour example: Terminator 1 isn't any better in HD. It's still the same Terminator 1, just shinier). HOWEVER, I never said adding a Blu-Ray player AND making the games in Blue-Ray wouldn't mean ALWAYS bigger numbers for Blu-Ray sales out-right from the begging. The fact remains, that PS3 games sell. Not as much as they used to... and actually, they're the least sold in any store, but they still sell. And Blu-Ray, selling in both MOVIES and GAMES while having a player that can read BOTH... well, DUH, it was obvious HD DVD was never going to get such numbers. And that was Microsoft mistake: skipping that little detail that always brings investors to the table. However, and like I always say: not because I understand it means I like it. HD is a dumb topic anyway: more expensive movies in more delicate formats just for the same damn content? Sorry, I pass.

I didn't edit nothing. You said in the past that Blu-Ray was not an advantage for the PS3 and now you call it brilliant. I never said that you "liked it". Go re-read the MGS4 on the 360 topic or the Console Wars topic. When I listed Blu-Ray as a PS3 advantage, as in my pick for what the future format will be, you disagreed. You critisized the format for being too hard to develop for. I merely said that most haven't given it a proper chance, but eventually will be forced to since I was sure that Blu-Ray would win.
Sorry dude.

Sorry dude. No, you're still missing the point: I said for it's NUMBERS. Blu-Ray numbers. Never did we argued about Blu-Ray movies that I remember. Perhaps I was wrong about Blu-Ray selling more PS3s, HOWEVER, it is still hard to develop, not because I like repeating myself, but because several companies have already stated that. A brilliant move by Sony to sell more Blu-Rays. That's it. NOT a good decision for the PS3 (which is not selling that well, as we all know), and not a good decision for videogames, and NOT an advantage. But, would the decision move more blu-Ray numers? You bet. IT did.

Ooooh!!! This are bad news for Sony!!! (Somewhat) kotaku.com/359010/hd-dvd-death-doesnt-necessarily-mean-sony-winCompeting with one's own format for profits... now that's just pathetic. On they effort to kill the competition (which they did unless the Microsoft has a damn good backup plan... like, the best plan ever), they forgot PROFITS, and are almost shooting themselves on the foot. And I say almost because, who knows, maybe by next year they finally have some damn profit? But if they don't... well, what a "Saturn" move for sony...
