Two parts to this one. First, what game do you feel has generated the biggest hype. Second, what game console do you feel generated the biggest hype?
1. Metal Gear Solid 2 Sons of Liberty and Halo 2. As far as I'm concerned they are tied. MGS2 trailer download crashed the Konami server! MGS2 was the first game that was given a preview rivaling that of a big cinematic premier. Halo 2 was huge, but I don't think it was any bigger that that of MGS2. People were salivating after each new MGS2 trailer.
2. PS2, by far. I think back to late 2000 and early 2001... PS2 was EVERYWHERE! TV, radio, Internet... you name it. People went NUTS! I remember during the shortage, people were buying the onling for over $1000! In the early shipments, riots broke out in some stores.
So I would say those are my picks. MGS2 and PS2.

1. Halo 3. This game isn't even out yet and already it's the reason most people are pre-ordering the Xbox 360. Bill Gates tells one lie to Time Magazine and everyone thinks it's the truth being told from God himself. Even after Bungie denied the release date for Halo 3 people still think it's coming out in the spring despite any screenshots are further info so close to it's release date.
2. SNES, This came out in the early years of gaming. The NES was the undisputed ruler of consoles at the time, and when people heard that a new console from Nintendo was coming out withe even better looker games and tons more power, they went f...cking ballistic. SNES still has some of the best games in history on it, and many people (myself included) still play theirs or an emulator all the freaking time.

When you have a much money as Bill Gates, you can play God till you die.
1. Grand Theft Auto series. Back when the first one was still being worked on, the CEO of the company said that it would be the game to test the cencorship of a game. Granted, the first three GTAs made did not test this as far as they said. However, GTA III is what really did it in. Hookers, lots of sexual dialog, and non-stop killing. When Vice City came out, it ws much of the same, short of being able to own a moive company that makes porn (and allows you to watch it). Then, almost a year ago, San Andreas came out, throwing the cencorship of games out the window. Endless sex, laungue, vilonce, everything. And, lets not forget Hot Coffee...
2. SNES. I mean, come on. Who never had one of these? Hell, you look in my friend's room and this is what you see: a 46" LCD tv, and 2-year old laptop which is STILL better the most stuff you can buy, and a SNES. I go over sometimes just to play the thing.

1. Game Boy and SNES. Back in the day, when SNES came out, with alll these good games, you couldn't stop playing. It raked in tons of money for Nintendo. I mean come on. My sisters fiance has the SNES and every single game imaginable for it. I go over to my sisters house and go play one game on it. Just one out of the millions of games that she has for it. And then Nintendo was trying to put the SNES in the palm of your hand. Game Boy. With Tetris. Portable Tetris=Awesome. The Game Boy, back in the day Price Tag was like $100 dollars. Freakin sweet deal. And then alot of portable consoles emerged from SEGA, etc. Those had a great potential and good games, but had a $200-$300 dollar price tag. Game Boy sales prevailed because of the awesomeness of SNES games on it, and the awesome price tag.
2. MGS2. It was everywhere. Front stories of magazines, Internet hype, TV commercials. With a huge graphical leap and other stuff.

Fable was alright. It was just rushed out so it couldn't be as good as it could have been.

Plus it was the shortest RPG I have ever played. It took me about 2 days to beat.

It takes a bit longer if you don't play it for 8 hours at a time.
