Seriously. As I was sitting around at work today, pretending like I was making fundraising phone calls, I got to thinking and I realize that I've totally lost faith in the Sony. I've had so much confidence and they've done nothing but break my heart by stumblef...cking their way through presentations, sacrificing a vibration function for a clunky version of what Wii is offering in motion sensors, and charging a ridiculous price that won't have an equal return in fun. I'm turning in my fanboy badge and "Just give them a chance" gun and leaving until they stop f...cking around and make me believe in them again. I'm buying a Wii, and that will be the only next gen console I'll own. And no amount of good exclusive titles will get me to join their crusade until they start working for the average gamer again. Nintendo seems to be the only company out there with their priorites straight. Playstation is just playing the graphics power card, and Microsoft is just throwing the name "Halo" in to get some action. The only people who really seem to care about everyone when it comes to Nintendo.
If you feel I'm making a bad decision, throw in your arguments, if you think I'm right, join me in my resignation as a defender of Sony.

If I wasn't a huge MGS fan, then I would agree with you. Like I said countless times before, Nintendo started using their heads this year. The people want flash, and the "Wii"s little motion sensor and countless titles give them that. When PS3 said that they reduced quality release titles, I said, oh what the f...ck is this sh*t?
I agree with you, and I'm hanging my Sony badge, but for the sake of my inevitable hearbreak when I play MGS4 and watch Snake pull the trigger in his mouth, I'll be getting a PS3.

I never thought I'd say this, but not even the power of MGS can get me to buy a PS3. Period. I'll find a way to play MGS4 without purchasing one, but now way will I pay such a ridiculous price for something I'll only use to play one game.

I agree with you. Why do you think I made that Wii topic? About the vibration function, its not that Sony doesnt want it anymore, is just that issues with Immersion make it impossible. One of them, if Im not mistaken, is that Microsoft owns a part of Immerson. What console manufacturer would wanna pay royalties to another, especially when theyr'e big rivals? Many people dont understand that it isnt easy for Sony right now to include vibration function on the PS3 controllers, so they diss Sony for that.

Well, Wii is the only NEW idea to gaming. PlayStation and Xbox are doing the same thing that they did before. See, evolution is vital in gaming, much as in everything else.
Generation 1 - Concept of gaming born, Pong anyone? Generation 2 - 2D gaming explodes and FUN gets a new name, Nintendo. Generation 3 - 3D is born and the PlayStation changes the rules. Generation 4 - Games look REAL with the PS2 and Xbox leading the charge. Generation 5 - NOW. Sony and Mocrosoft are still stuck in the last generation, REALITY. But that was already achieved. Wii is creating a brand new concept to define this generation. They are back in the lead.
For me, Metal Gear > Gaming. I'll get the Wii for my girlfriend, who is very excited about it, especially all the classic games. I will wait for the PS3 and Metal Gear. I hate to spend that much money of MGS4, but hey... I don't really buy other games so it balances out.

I have to apologize to the Wii and Nintendo. When I first saw version 1 of the Wii controller, I laughed at it. I thought they would have to put a good amount of brain and toil to make it work. Now 8 months later, I see how far it came and I must say it looks really lucid and fluent.
I'm going to have to at least consider buying a Wii.

Ive always, since it was announced, said, "Im going to get a Wii." And I'd rather get a laptop with $800 to buy a PS3. The Wii is just more...satisfying when it comes to the big things

I think we've come to a point were the hardware doesn't revolutionize gaming, but the games and their developers does. Wii could be seen as an exception.

It really isn't about graphics anymore. Wii is less powerful than PS3, but it's innovative design, backwards compatibility, decent game list and overall affordability are going to win over gamers casual and hardcore alike.

Exactly. And I think that is why I'm drifting away from gaming. PS2 made things look real. That's all there's to it. The shock of seeing the MGS2 trailer for the first time can NEVER be surpassed by anything that gaming can create with the current level of thinking. Wii is being smart and trying to find a new direction while PS3 and 360 still play the graphics war that most people can not afford.
Even Metal Gear, just look at the lack of hype. What was bigger MGS2 or MGS3? MGS3 or MGS4? In all honesty, while they are still highly inticipated, the MG previews are just not generating as big of a hype as they used to. None of the games do. It looks REAL, yeah we get it already. At least Kojima is being smart enough to concentrate on making the game actually feel real instead of just the visuals.
What is needed is a new concept. Since gaming started, the ultimate goal has been to increase graphics and realism. In my opinion that journey came to a close at E3 2000. Reality has been achieved. For the last 6 years that presentation of Reality has been polished and refined. But that's all that we can do with it. Now it's time for a new concept. I say it's VR helmet time. And Nintendo Wii is the first step towards that.

Just like I can say Shadow of the Colossus is the best game ever, better than MGS2 in any aspect. But thats just my opinion. ;D You say how you have distanced yourself from gaming, maybe thats why you cant think of other games that surpass MGS2. But there are and there will be. The new Zelda is one of them. Okami is another. I could go on.

It's one thing to say MGS is a really good game, but it's another thing to say that MGS is the greatest game ever. You ever watch those unneeded, repetitve movie commercials that say "Go see the #1 movie of the year!", well than you go towards the end of the year and the same thing has happened, and it's better than the one at the beginning of the year. If this game is an awesome game, eventually there will be games that are better than the the game. Example:
1987 Legend Of Zelda Awesome Game 1992 A Link To The Past (Surpassed LoZ with greater story, better gameplay and better visuals) 1998 TLoZ: Ocarina Of Time (Surpassed LTTP with with Amazing graphics, tight controls, never-ending gameplay, and the "stuff everything in" idea that raised the bar for every RPG adventure to come.)
TLoZ: OoT remains the greatest Zelda game available, because the sheer complexity and perfection of the game remains unmatched.
Very soon though, Twilight Princess will break more ground than OoT has on so many levels, one of them being the little vibrator toy attached to a mysterious box that looks cool.

Twilight Princess is a Wii launch title. That's another $50 I'll instantly be spending. Still, with the Wii (which I found out includes a game right in the box for the first time in ten years!) and Twilight Princess, I'll still be spending half of what I would on a PS3 with no game to speak of.

I really don't understand how you people can misinterprate everything I said. I never claimed that MGS2 is the best game there is, not once. But the fact remains that gaming did NOT look real until the arrival of the PlayStation 2. And the first blockbuster game on the system was MGS 2. It is not the best ever PS2 game, but it was the first one that turned heads. Hence my statement. It was not until the debut trailer of MGS2 at E3 2000 that gaming has truly reached REALITY. It looked real for the first time, and was no different in presentation than a big-time movie release. I'm not saying it was as real as graphics have gotten, hell MGS3 is far better. But the reality level was already reached, and that was the first time it was done. That doesn't make it the best, it makes it the FIRST. How you people get that mixed up is beyond me. I thought I made clear that I was referencing the graphics race to achieve reality. How you derive "best ever" out of that is The POINT that I was talking about is that PS3 and Xbox 360 continue a futile graphics race. Making things look as real as possible isn't important anymore since the PS2 era. For decades games tried to add as much detail as possible in order to make the game as realistic as possible. The plato was reached with MGS2, where things finally looked and felt REAL. Since MGS2, all that has been done is more and more make up to touch up the presentation of realistic graphics. And while the new generation of Sony and Microsoft continue with that, while Wii is trying to make something brand new. That's my point.
