Yeah since PS3 and the Wii are completely rare here and I've yet to see one in stores, besides displays, i'm at a loss.
I don't want to wait a year for a new system and i'm not a fan of x-box or the 360 so i have a question.
Should i forget my loathing of x-box and risk getting a 360?

NO. Just wait until January at the latest when the new shipment goes out. Trust me, it's not that long.

Well it's also an issue of being smart with your money, unless you're rich.
The PS3 is, to a degree, a must-have for the Metal Gear clan. However, we won't actually NEED it until the MGS4 release towards the end of 2007.
Wii... I don't know. It is cheaper and you will probably get more use out of it.
Unless you love Xbox games I see no reason to buy a 360. Then again, there is Halo 3.
What I'm saying is that you will pretty much have to buy a PS3 sometime within the next year. But be smart. Are there games on it that you wanna play right now, or can it wait until MGS4. This way you can save some money.
If you don't need it until MGS4, wait to fork over the $600 for the PS3. If you need it now, at least wait a month or two for the defects to be straightened out.
Short term, I would suggest Wii. Unless there are 360 titles you simply must have.

took note.
the only game i want for ps3 as of right now would be mgs4.
maybe ff, but i can wait for metal gear.
a wii probably would be the better choice for me right now;
simply because i am not a x-box fan.

Get a Wii.

Now, I do have to admit that the new Halo 3 Ad looks amazing! The two kids in the beginning... MAN! They look far more realistic than anything in MGS4. Hell, at first I thought it was footage of 2 real kids!

An awful lot of 360 bashing here. I think it's a good system, however, my one friend who owns one just had to send his off to Microsoft for repairs because it started malfunctioning. He's had it close to a year I think, but you know how it goes with the first wave releases of a new console.
There's Gears of War, Halo 2 online, Abandoned: Criminal Intent and...can't remember what other games he's got, but those are all stellar titles.
