The PlayStation name rained supereme in the last 2 generations of gaming.
The first PlayStation was by far number 1 and PS2 owned the last generation by a landslide. Will the PS3 continue the trend, or will someone else take the gold?

The PS3 damnit, always and forever. Dont get me wrong I know the Wii and 360 will still put up stiff resistance but no resistance can last forever especially when it is against the PS3.

I think up until the PS3 has had its first full year at November 2007 the PS3 will be average but i think it will start cleaning up then and start killing Christmas 2007 and and continue to kick ass through to the release of PS4.
This of course will be thanks to price drops, exclusive AAA titles, and major firmware updates. (the ones which make the PS3 more user friendly and more stable in terms of backwards compatibility and such.)

I believe the Wii will reign supreme.

Wii has always been number one in my book. The only reason I want a pS3 is cause of three games, no more. I think Wii will have an advantage over the PS3 until (a)the price drops, or (b)more interesting games come out.
As for the 360, I dont really care about it.

I agree, the 360 just does not appeal to me what so ever. Since like, damn near everything about it is an online feature, damn near every game on it can be found a la PC format, and it's a silly concept (IE Microsoft using an Apple computer as a 360 prototype).

The question about Wii though is what about the visual appeal? I mean, innovation is a great thing, but the graphics are somewhat less then amazing on the Wii.

Geeze Ag, of all people, I didn't know you were one of those people who moan about the graphics. So what if it doesn't look life real life! Its the quailty of the game, not the quantity of pixels!

To a degree. I still want to see an improvement with each generation. There is always room for improvement.

IF a game just makes you want to buy the system that it will be hosted on then yes that system should be considered best, again just because MGS4 is comin out on it would crown it best for the next-gen believe me no other system has had me interested for so long, XBOX360 has some good stuff but yes it is a Microsoft cop-out but the Wii I also give it kudos because it does bring in new innovation and gameplay. BUT STILL DAMNIT hell call be a fanboy even I dont care the PS3
REIGNS SUPREME!!!!

Pfft how far can the wii go.
I have one and i just cant see it lasting its whole lifespan of 4-6 years.
And i agree with AG about the graphics thing. Seriously each generation should not only play better but it should look better too.
I really do not think the jump between the Gamecube and Wii graphical wise was enough.

I don't center my preference of a game based on just the graphics. However, I do believe that they are vital. If I'm gonna buy a $600 machine to play MGS4, that game HAS to be better than anything that I've seen in Metal Gear yet. The gameplay and the graphics need to blow Snake Eater out of the water.
I look at the system's power and then base my expectations on that:
PS1: CPU (33.8688 MHz), GPU (8 Mbits), 30 million ops/sec. PS2: CPU (294.912 MHz), GPU (147 MHz), 6.2 billion ops/sec.
Now based on those stats, we can definetly see why the MGS2 and MGS3 were mechanically so superior to MGS1. Now look at the PS3 on that scale:
PS3: CPU (3200 MHz), GPU (550 MHz), 2.18 trillion ops/sec.
MGS4 damn well better be a marvel if they are making it for a machine of that power. I expect a lot if I spending my money on a machine of that caliber. Hell, you're not gonna buy a Ferrari if you drive 5 miles under the speed limit! People like that buy a Wii.
