BY CHRISTMAS 2008 PS3> WII> X360
No doubt about it.
Heh, why does everyone keep saying that? Is it cause they think Microsoft is just gonna sit around on their asses and let the competetion run through? Or is it cause Sony has always been "the top dog"?
If you havent noticed, Microsoft has started making moves in order to beat the PS3 since before the PS3 was released. 1080p was suppose to be exclusive for the ps3... oh wait, not anymore! Microsoft is releasing the HD-DVD add-on in order to compete against the oh, all powerful, all might PS3's HD graphics.
And whats the the whole Blu-ray deal? I don't like being forced with Blu-Ray (which might flop, if it does, Sony is pretty much again [-UMD] paying money for a technology that they're trying to keep alive) when current DVDs right now are working just as well.
The problem with the PS3 is the lack of consumer satisfaction. Sony has always screwed their clients over, the only reason Sony ánd thus the playstation has been successful is because they launched it at the perfect time. When the first PSX launched nintendo was slipping, and with the Gamecube it happened again. It wasn't until mid-gen until microsoft's launched the noobie Xbox and competition started rising a little bit.
You can definitely say that this time it's much more tough for sony to keep up, and you can tell from all the BLATANT mistakes they're making, especially geared to the consumers and their blatant arrogance. They really did expect the console to sell even if there weren't any games out there for it, they expected sales from it's name alone. Now that the fanboy buyout has calmed down and the proverbial smoke is clearing you can see that the global PS3 interest is pretty low. Now that there are products of equal (if not better) quality are out (Wii, 360) people are considering new options. This goes for developers as well. Did you ever expect a Virtua Fighter- a flagship fighting title for PS, to jump ship? This is only the beginning, a lot of developers are starting to see that Sony isn't "alone" anymore.
This competition is really showing Sony's ignorance at costumer satisfaction. They think since they've been on top for the last two generations they can get away with everything; including another faulty console launch with horrible games and hardware failures. You think they'd have learned from the 360 last year and tried to avoid it; but no. They ran into the same ditch, because they didn't care.
If it isn't obvious I'm not too happy with the way Sony has been acting lately, and I'm very glad other developers and companies (such as the recent outburst from the head of Atari recently) are starting to see that there is more out there than Sony this time around. Maybe, finally, Sony will wake the hell up and start caring more for their consumers.
So really, compared to what the 360 had to offer at launch and looking at the PS3, there really isn't much to praise. PS3 right now is getting leftovers from last year, what the 360 started out with. There's nothing concrete coming out for a good while, whereas with the 360 you could expect something good every other month, with great buildup. So game wise, PS3 has nothing to offer. And it's not that graphically impressive either. Comparing both launches; Perfect Dark Zero and Condemned looked much better than Resistance.
PS3 is crap right now and I'll avoid it like the plague until 2008, where it may start turning around. Unless all of it's exclusives start falling into the competition's hand. There's a high chance that the next exclusive lost will be Devil May Cry 4. (Referring to capcom's plans to release 6 new games for 360 this year)
BTW, PS3's online is crap. Weren't the servers like down the first few weeks and it didn't work? Doesn't it have a lot of lag and latency issues? Freezing? Sony's online service has never been good, and it will stay that way unless they start up a dedicate service like MS, which they wont. This is why I'm hoping that some day MGS4 will turn up on 360/LIVE. LIVE is online gaming how it's supposed to be. ;o
Games... the only thing keeping the PS3 alive are damn sequels, like MGS4 and DMC4. I dont mind sequels if they're good games, really, unless they're sequels that are only there to munch off of it's predecessor. I dont think DMC4 or MGS4 will be like that. I certainly hope not.
It's nice to throw a little originality into the mix though, which is why I'm glad Gears of War came out recently. Fantastic original game. Bioshock seems like it'll be great, as well. Also, games like Dead Rising and Lost Planet is what the PS3 needs really fast. Something fresh.
I really don't think Heavenly Sword will cut it, media seems to label it as a button basher, they've stated it to be more a game that's focused on butting bashing. I hope it won't be like that, because Sony does need some decent games this year. And if Heavenly Sword turns into another Resistence (i.e generic), then well... I'll be even more put off.
Also, on Virtua Fighter, have you seen VF 4 on any console other than Playstation? It pretty much got flagged because of it. It was another fighter that PS owners could really look forward to if they wanted some much needed realism. It's one of my favorite fighting series. It's really something you learn, not just memorize combo patterns like DOA4 for example. PS3 fans were looking foward to VF5 as another 'hit' exclusive for the PS3. Not anymore, anyway. Especially not if it's going to utilize LIVE gameplay with tournaments and rankings. Add Tekken to that "loss of exclusivity panel". It's only rumoured, but Namco already said that they would bring a Big Name to the 360 and the same guy who said VF 5 would be announced to the 360 said this about Tekken. Somehow the PS3's future just keeps looking more and more grim everyday.
