The graphic processor on the PSone, does anyone know how to scale it to the PS2?
The PS2 GPU is clocked at 147 MHz. The PS3 is 550 MHz. But the there is no info on the PSone using that scale. Does anyone know?

The PSX ran on a Custom MIPS R3000 at 33.8688 Mhz.

Well the 33.8688 MHz was the CPU.
How does the MIPS R3000 compare to the stats given on the PS2? I'm trying to find what the GPU of the PSone was in terms of MHz or Hz.

Ah, I see... After some extensive searching, I've found from this site that it runs at 53.20 Mhz.

Thanks! ;D
Interesting though that the PS2 and 3 had a higher CPU than GPU, but the PS1 had a higher GPU. I wonder why..

Not sure if this is how it works in the PS2 and PS3, but the change from the PSX's GPU to the PS2's GPU seems to be that the PS2 GPU essentially moved all of the pixel rendering, color, transformation and lighting functions that were handled by the CPU to the GPU. I think with the PSX, the GPU was just supplementary to the CPU. It had a dedicated connection the CPU to help aid in this, but I think when they stepped up to the PS2, the GPU was dedicated solely to this and not just relegated in helping the CPU. I...think that made sense.

Actually that does make perfect sense. It's a fascinating scale and the growth in technology: PlayStation (1994) - CPU 33.8688 MHz, GPU 53.2 MHz PlayStation 2 (2000) - CPU 294.912 MHz, GPU 147 MHz PlayStation Portable (2004) - CPU 333 MHz, GPU 166 MHz PlayStation 3 (2006) - CPU 3200 MHz, GPU 550 MHz The PS2 had a CPU 8.7 times and a GPU 2.8 times more powerful than the PS1. Now, the PS3 has a CPU 10.85 and a GPU 3.7 times more powerful than the PS2. To me, that means that there should be a greater leap in games than what we saw from PS1 to PS2. If MGS2 and MGS3 can be THAT much better than MGS1 going from PS1 to PS2, MGS4 has to be downright amazing! Well, according to the numbers that is...

And it will be amazing!
BUT were all going to need 1080p HDTV's with HDMI to be able to appreciate the jump from PS2 to PS3 fully.

Why is that? What will happen if you have a regular TV?
I know everyone is making a big deal about the PS3 needing upgraded TVs, but what will it do on a regular TV set? What will be the "BIG" difference?
