I've been thinking really really hard, and I think Xbox just might get lucky.
Lets consider these facts:
360 is a year ahead of the PS3 and Wii
There aren't many games to play for either the PS3 or the Wii, while Xbox 360 has hundreds more to it's library, some of them actually good games (I've tried them).
Halo 3 AND GTA IV for the 360 (GTA is on the PS3 too, but considering that $500-$600 price tag....)
If MGS4 somehow ends up on the X360, you can probably kiss PS3's ass goodbye, seeing as how PS3 lost Final Fantasy exclusivity not so long ago. Something to think about, or no?

On a personal note, I really could care less at this point. Games don't really interest me all that much nowdays.
But more on topic, I think that it's far too early to tell. This is only year 1 for the PS3. MGS4 will be an exclusive, at least at first. Guns of the Patriots will be as advertised. Now the exanded version will most likely be ported, MGS4 Subsomething.
Either way, it won't really make a difference. 360 had a 1 year headstart and used it fairly well. They got their biggest gun comming out this fall in Halo 3.
Now what actually interests me the most is that both PlayStation and Xbox will, as it stands right now, will loose their main gun after this year. Both Halo and Metal Gear, as official cannon games will end with Halo 3 and MGS4 respectively. So then the REAL contest will begin. Then we will see what the two will provide when the main event titles are finished. That will determine the longevity of the consoles.
I personally lean towards the Xbox 360 winning this one. And only due to the image of the two. Allow me to explain:
* People bought the PS2 because it was a "PlayStation", not really because of specific games. For the most part. * People bought the Xbox either for certain games or due to knowledge of tech specs, and prefering a stronger machine.
As such, the PS2 won by a landslide since it was disired as a console in general, nothing specific. Right now the situations are reversed:
* People want the Xbox 360 because it's an "Xbox", just in general since it owns onlline play. * People that get the PS3 either get it for a specific game or due to PSone and PS2 nastalgia.
From a business perspective the PlayStation would need a miracle to win this. And I really don't see one happening.

That's exactly what I mean. Wii's getting some exclusives, but like you said, it's too early to tell.

Sony just basically got off to a rough start, in just about every category.
I still say there will be a PlayStation 4 though.

It's not like Sony is going to go bankrupt. The Xbox opened up gaming to a wider audience and the Xbox 360 increased it. My point being no one can really "win", Nintendo isn't going anywhere, Microsoft isn't, and neither is Sony. Sony has it's audience, so does Xbox and Nintendo so just because Halo 3 is coming out doesn't mean people are going to stop playing/buying/loving a PS3.
Ha you never know, but I'm still sticking to my guns and saying that Sony will once again dominate. I'll bet you a Playstation 4 that Sony will win this round. For realz!
Also, who here owns a PS3?

Kojima once made a reference about the difference between 360, PS3, and Wii games.
According to him, a Wii game is like TV, simple, direct, and available with the most ease. Xbox 360 games are like a DVD, with more attention to sound, picture, and all that technical "stuff". The PlayStation 3 games are like a movie-going experience, as you have to have top-notch level of everything with perfect delivery.
I personally always thought of the 3 systems, even with the last generation, as more like this:
* Nintendo (GameCube or Wii) - Children Level * Microsoft (Xbox or Xbox 360) - Teenage Level * Sony (PlayStation 2 or PlayStation 3) - Adult Level
I think that that's how they should market it as well. Give the kids the fun joy of Nintendo. Give the teens that craving need for mass action and destraction with minimal "thinking". And finally, satisfy the sofisticated minds of adults with complex simulation on the PlayStation.

Minimal thinking? Can you please elaborate on that? And who the needs a sofisticated mind to play Spider-Man 3, Pirates of the Carribean, or Resistance Fall of Man? I can't think of any games that are on the PS3 that require a sofisticated mind (there is Oblivion but that's on PC and 360).
The Wii is terribley addicting, ha there is something called "Wii Night" at a local venue where they have a couple Wii's set up on projectors with live DJ's and drinks. My bro's friend actually runs that sh*t, hell of a lot of fun!
I think the PS3 is best for single player games, Xbox is best for online games, and the Wii is best for getting people together in the same room and having fun.

Halo 3 is pretty much the only exclusive that X360 has that actually generates system sales. GTAIV is not exclusive. So i dont know how HALO3 and GTAIV is "nuff said"

GTA IV is for PS3 and 360. How many people do you think are gonna buy it for the 360 and for the PS3, taking into consideration PS3s price tag.

I think you are right BlackSnake, I'm sure more people own 360's then PS3's as of now, so when the game does come out the Xbox sales of GTA4 will be higher.
And Oblivion is for the PS3 already, I've been playing it latetly at my friends, very entertaining.

I've been thinking really really hard, and I think Xbox just might get lucky. .......If MGS4 somehow ends up on the X360, you can probably kiss PS3's ass goodbye...... How can you think MGS4 is the only thing going for the PS3. Sony are not stupid enough to rely on 1 exclusive title to sell there system. Stop and think about all the great exclusive games that the sony have. God of war Syphon Filter Grand Tourismo Tekken Killzone Resistance Eyetoy series Singstar series Heavenly Sword Warhawk Ratchet and Clank Jack and Daxter Thats off the top of my head. Sony isnt going anywhere, neither is the PS3. I own one i know what the machine can do. I really think its funny how every second person on the internet bash the PS3 and probably havnt even played it.
