I was doing some research on console sales and found some interesting things:
The Xbox 360 has been estimated to have sold 10.8 millions units since it’s debut. While the PS3 has sold 3.6 million. Big difference, but if you break it down you will see something interesting. I found a sales chart for the 360 based on quarter year sales:
Q4 2005: 1.5 million Q1 2006: 1.7 million Q2 2006: 1.8 million Q3 2006: 0.9 million Q4 2006: 4.4 million Q1 2007: 0.5 million Cumulative: 10.8 million
The PS3 has sold 3.6 million since it’s release. That’s Q4 2006 and Q1 of 2007. If you look at the Xbox 360, it has sold 3.2 million units in it’s first 2 quarters. So the PS3 sales are actually doing well. The interesting thing is Wii. It has sold 6.8 million now, and it is in it’s first 2 quarters as well. Yet it sold as much as both the Xbox and the PlayStation combinted.
