From Kotaku: "It takes more than a big time PS3 exclusive like Metal Gear Solid 4 to beat Nintendo. Way more. While MGS4 did give Sony a bump in sales, it wasn't enough, and the Wii outsold the PS3 in June. This is the seventh consecutive month that the Wii has come out on top in The Land of the Rising Sun. For those interested in the number crunching, data from Famitsu publisher Enterbrain has the Wii moving 235,990 consoles during June, while the PS3 shifted 139,494 consoles. In short: Even without a new, huge blockbuster title, Nintendo still sold 59 percent more machines than Sony. Guess Metal Gear Solid 4 didn't drive Japanese hardware sales as Sony had hoped."kotaku.com/5021730/even-with-mgs4-ps3-sales-flattened-by-the-wiiThough there could be a lot of pointing and such with this, I'll keep it simple: This further proves that most people bought the PS3 for MGS4, and not that many waited for MGS4 to appear to buy one.

At least in Japan. This proves nothing in regards to US or European Sales. And it’s been a true fact since MGS1 that MGS is more popular in US then in Japan. Not really all that shocking news.
The point here isn’t Metal Gear, it’s the trend. Wii is a new style of gaming. The PS3, while by far the most powerful, is still the OLD way of playing. And that’s the bottom line. And Japanese gamers are looking for new trends and ideas. It’s not like US where as long as you shoot and destroy the game will sell. So, it’s not that shocking that an old horse like the MG series isn’t surpassing the Wii. Afterall, MGS4 isn’t a new concept, it’s the conclusion the old concept.

Explain why the MGPO PSP bundle and Monster Hunter PSP bundle sell so much down there, then, if it's nothing more than old styles of playing (specially MG). Monster Hunter and MG PO moved THOUSAND of PSPs and beat the 2 "alternate" style of playing (Wii and DS) consoles with WIDE margin. No. There's simply no way I can agree with that statement.

MPO is 2 years ago and on a system that was popular when launched. PS3 is not a popular system. It makes a big difference.

A $250 console is sure to drive up more sales than $400-$500 one.
