Today during the Sony Press Conference the new PSP title was confirmed. MGS Peace Walker will star Big Boss and is set 10 years after MGS3 (1974).

I'm not sure what to make of the multiple Big Boss', that box gag at the end was funny.
Glad to see they had E3 press conferences live on TV. I can't stream where I am , I'm using satellite internetz. Watched all but Microsofts.

This game is a waste. We all dreaded the possibility of MPO2, and now we got it. More useless "fillers" that the series does not need. Not shocking though.

I shouldn't talk to much, seeing as how I've stuck to only the main MG games (MG1, MGS1-3).
I just haven't had a motivation to play the other games, not to get off topic here, but are all of the side titles (AC!D, MPO) of great caliber or are they complete disappointments?

Well, the Acid series is unrelated to the main canon. It's a card game, period. If you like card games, you might like it. I personally don't, so the game system was very boring for me.
MPO plays like a regular MGS, except for the fact that you can conrol any character your recruit. Unfortunetely the game just used the core game engine of MGS3 and crammed it into a PSP. That made the whole thing play out very poorly. You can read more about this on MGF.

Now that I know what this game is I actually am looking forward to it. Even though I too feel it's not at all needed, Kojima saying this is a main game and not a spin off and that he's writing and creating it just made me a little teary eyed (in a good way).
Did anyone else get the impression he favors Peace Walker over Rising? Since he was so clear about the fact that he's heavily involved in the making and that the MGS4 team is developing it. Rising was just "Well here's a new game, now I'm outta here."

If he's smart, he should just make MPO non-canon and remake the story with Peace Walker.
Interesting stats though:
Director: Hideo Kojima
Art Director: Yoji Shinkawa (yay!)
Game Design: Hideo Kojima
Story: Hideo Kojima
Hmm... the title even lists it as "A Hideo Kojima Game". Certainly a step beyond MPO. Maybe it will replace MPO!

Yeah, that's what I'm hoping. And where did you get that info from? Shinkaway being back is golden!

The very end of the trailer shows the credits. If Kojima replaces MPO with this game I will be a happy camper. Nothing will please me more then to get rid of the MPO page on my site and replace it with a legit Kojima game.
He totaly snobbed MPO in this though. Why would he say "10 years afte MGS3" when that completely overlooks MPO? Why now say "4 years after MPO"? And then the whole thing about it being the "real deal" on the PSP.... I smell a replacement!
We haven't had a good portable game since Ghost Babel, and that was nearly 10 years ago!

Well, the good news continue with the official site being updated: www.konami.jp/kojima_pro/e3_2009/en/Which further spits on MPO by labeling Peace Walker the first official "Hideo Kojima Game" for the PSP. Put that together with the fact that during the Sony Press Conference Kojima said that it's the first PSP MG that's not a spin-off (MPO) or a side-story (Acids)and the groundwork is set! Heck, they didn't even bother to mention MPO when they said that the new game is set 10 years after MGS3. Why would you do that when you're completely overshadowing the events of MPO?! LOL Maybe because MPO will be booted out of the canon! All Kojima has to do is mention a new origin for Outer Heaven in this game and it erases the events of MPO completely! It really would be that simple to do it since MGS4 does not mention the events of Portable Ops. And if there is the slightest contradition between Peace Walker and MPO, Peace Walker will win out since it's an "Official Hideo Kojima" game. LOL!

Still not keen on the title being Peace Walker, but you know fellas, this really does set up Big Boss to be the "legendary soldier of the 21st century". When first introduced to Big Boss in the earlier games, he's met with a bit of reverance by all the characters and they really hype him up in MG2:SS and MGS, plusany of the accompanying background information provided by the later games sets Big Boss up with a huge history and more than a bit of mystery. If you read his dossier from the Millenium guide, he's involved with all kinds of units and missions undertaken. Snake Eater showed that Big Boss was an extremely capable soldier, but one mission doesn't earn the accolade of 'legendary soldier'. I think it's nice that we're able to learn why he's so revered and know more about the amazing things he's done on the battlefield to earn him such respect finally. For years, we had vague guessings and subtle hints to go by and at one point in time we wished there was a way we could know more about his past missions. This game looks like fun to me, but I don't have a PSP, so no doubt I'll be missing this one as well. It's sort of ironic that we all wanted to know more about this character at some time in the past because he seemed like such a missing link, but now that we have it, we turn our nose up at the offer. Funny ain't it?

If it replace MPO, I will replace the MPO page on MGF with this game. As such, you will get every spec of detail on gameplay, characters, and plot.

I just read the plot description on the Konami E3 site and damn it sounds good.
Something worth asking though: What will the cut-scenes be like?
Now, I didn't like the cut-scenes in PO, because of two reasons. The art sucked, and they weren't handled very well in my opinion.
But if Shinkawa is doing the art (oh my god would it be Shinkawa paradise or what) that would be an enourmus plus for me, and since Kojima is the mind behind it all it couldn't be anything but great if you ask me.
But still, what type of cut-scene will it be? I'm happy to say I'd be okay with both "real" cut-scenes and Digital Graphic Novel inspired ones.

I think the best part about Peace Walker is that Kojima will be designing it specifically for the PSP. So, unlike MPO where you just got a stripped-down MGS3 on a handheld, this one will be made from the ground up. Should be interesting since it's the first time Kojima is directing a Portable game.
Now if they can remove MPO out of the canon, I'll be a happy camper!
