I fail to see how any of that indicates that it's the original versions and not the updated ones. I mean, the updated versions are not exclusive to the PS2, they came out on mobile phones long before Subsistence. Unless we see a screen that shows MG2 Radio screens with old artwork then I really don't we can get our hopes up.

For the record, this thing was released in Japan. First of all, you can simply search Metal Gear MSX Wii Virtual Console and see as many results as you want which explain that it's the original MSX title and not the PS2/mobile conversions.
Second, it may not even be released in US or Europe, so it's harder then to get proof.
Third, you can check Snake Soup, that's your choice.
Fourth, Johnny2X4, user of wikipedia, is renown for getting accurate information and he's usually the up-to-date guy I follow for all rare pieces of news. Of course, wikipedia is unreliable, but that doesn't mean users like him are. You can see his contributions as proof.
Fifth, the Virtual Console game itself has been warez'd online. To see if it's the original, I myself downloaded it and it is indeed the original, unaltered, Japanese game. I don't know what's your attitude on warez markets, but this is the closest you'll get to physical proof.
Maybe you stilll want pictures, well you're going to have to ask someone from Japan. But I can possibly get one of my friends to put it on his wii and show you a vid on youtube.
In any case, I'm almost positive that Virtual Console releases are usually the original, emulated ones (or at least from Konami so far). If not, any changes are freshly made to the original and put on the VC. In other words, I doubt they'll take a previous re-release from another system (that has changes of its own) and make it a Virtual Console release. I may be wrong about that, though.

Also, MG2 hasn't been re-released on Virtual Console yet. It is planned, though, and from the way the first one came out, I'm sure it'll be the original one in all its glory (but I'm still trying to figure out how to save game).

Geez, wired on coffee or what, bud? LOL Take it easy!
This is first I hear of this and I'm not arguing with you. The link provided doesn't show me any screens to prove that it's the original version and not the updated one. That's all I was saying. I wasn't questioning the validity of Johnny whoever. LOL
In all honesty though, I don't think this is a big deal anyway. I mean, the update versions are the definitive ones. And if what you say is true and we won't get it in US then it's another letdown.
Oh well.

Even if it isn't released here in the U.S. couldn't someone just buy a japanese Wii at websites like playAsia.com,including the game of course?

I can't imagine anybody being foolish enough to buy a Wii for the sake of playing MG1 (or MG2). LOL Total waste of money.
