I'll always have the original Metal Gear Solid, and I think this was a natural way for them to turn considering the HD package was not able to include this for obvious reasons, as stated within that article. I'm not totally against it, I guess. I cringe at what they might change, I'm sure it will never have the same feel as the original, but it's like Kojima said: "Building the future and keeping the past alive are one and the same thing." It's good that people will be able to enjoy Metal Gear Solid 13 years after it came out and maybe I can play it for my girlfriend now without having to make apologies for the aged graphics and gameplay. These are the good things I see about it.
Like I said, I cringe at the retcon aspect, but if it helps the story work better *sigh* I hope they at least approach some of that original magic. Guess that's the tough thing about making a storyline that is now over 20 years old, especially with one that is so complicated: to continually make sophisticated storylines and try to make all kinds of sequels, prequels and interquels all out of order, you're going to get yourself in trouble.

I'm shocked that they didn't learn anything from Twin Snakes. Forget the poor voice acting or the crappy cutscenes, the gameplay suffered! You can't make a proper game that allows first person aimiming (not to mention the advanced controls of MGS4) in the maps of MGS1! The maps were not designed for it. Twin Snakes proved that. They would have to create all new maps, and that will be an issue since MGS4 stayed faithful to the maps of the original MGS1.
And speaking of voice acting, I'm curious how that will go. The way I see it they have 3 options:
1. Use the voice acting from Twin Snakes (which was poor). 2. Record new voice acting with the same cast, that is if they are available. And if they are, how poor the quality will be on the third recording?! 3. Record new voice acting with new cast, which would kill any interest from the hardcore fans.

Square Enix has been talking about "wanting" to remake FF7 for the last... what, 10 years?
Just because this one guy wants to do a remake doesnt mean its going to happen.

Yeah, except they already did remake it once. So the whole "don't touch the classics" isn't really a trait Kojima Productions has. And leaving it out of the HD collection so bluntly is rather questionable.

And leaving it out of the HD collection so bluntly is rather questionable. I might have an answer for that: the game is already on the PSN. If you mean Twin Snakes, simple: the game was developed by Silicon Knights AND produced by Nintendo WITH GameCube hardware on mind. Seems to me (TO ME) that there are not only rights issues but also hardware issues involved.

I would not want to see Twin Snakes in the HD Collection. I would want the original, fixed up so it's not pixelated. Nothing more. Doesn't even need to be in widescreen to be honest.

Like I said in another thread, I really don't think Metal Gear Solid was designed to EVER be ported to an HD medium. But then again, those are just my two cents.
Plus, game plays the same and looks just the same, and as we both know, that's all that I really need, :3
