Hey, guys.
Has anyone played this? I actually never really could get into the series, because the bullet sponge enemies and at times unfair scenarios toward the end annoyed me way to much. I still finished UC1 and UC2 before, but I missed UC3.
For some reason though, as I play this now I'm really enjoying myself. After finishing UC1 and UC2 again, I am currently working my way through UC3, which I have never played before and so far I'm enjoying it. Especially young Nate was fun. And Eastern France (the "jungle"/ villa segment) is near where I grew up in Germany, so it's almost as if Nathan is visiting my old neighbourhood.
Overall I think Nate at times still controls too floaty and especially in hectic situations tends to stick to the wrong surface or jump the wrong way and die because of it. But overall some of the most entertaining storylines in a long time.
What do you guys think? Have you played the originals? Did you get this? Love or Hate Nate?

Love the cast, setting, and story of the first. The third had a lot of eye candy and big gameplay scenarios but lacked a good story flow. The second is great, one of my favorite games. I got the collection and completely love it. Definitely a must have. Naughty Dog ruled the PS3, no question there.
The physics in the game are goofy and not much interaction with the environment. Compared to MGS4 all three games pale in the realism department. But, they are fun! It's as close to Indiana Jones as we can get. Highly recommend it.

Especially the locations in UC2 are awesome. And the pacing. You never linger too long in one area. And a decent amount of quiet time before the big shootouts. Otherwise, we agree (for once

I finished Uncharted 2 today and have been working through 1. Out of curiosity, I put in the PS3 Uncharted 1 and played both version. Same location, just switching back and forth between consoles. The change is staggering. Everything is noticeably more crisp and polished. The controls are more responsive and I haven't seen any glitches. Playing this makes me want a remastered MGS4 that much more. If they were able to improve Uncharted that much, MGS4 would be very interesting to see.

I played through them in order. I am currently at UC3 in that museum/fortress with Cutter and Chloe and Sully. Elena hasn't appeared, yet. Actually might get The Last of Us another try after this. But I still have The Witcher and MGSV, of course. I'm not sure about remastering MGS4 on PS4. On the one hand, it would be grat to see it (and MGS2,3,PW and maybe even MGS1) on 1080p with 60 fps, on the other hand, I am quite happy with the Legacy collection on the shelve and I'm not sure if I want to spend money on this again and unlock all the bonus items again, after I've spend a fair amount of time of the last couple of years doing it on PS3. I guess, I'd much rather see Snatcher and Policenauts properly brought to the West and remastered in HD, maybe in a similar way like Grim Fandango, with the ability to chose between orginal graphics and HD graphics (and in the case of Snatcher between the original 1988 version or the 1992 CD-ROMantic version).

UC3 is certainly a revolutionary experience no doubt, whether solo or multiplayer. I have the official guidebook and am just generally striving for all the trophies.
I really should get the collection but only have a PS3 and 360.

You can still get the collection, so you own a copy already. Do you plan on getting a PS4?
Honestly, while HD remasters from PS2 games really look noticable different with higher textures and HD resolution and are relly interesting for all players imo, the Full Hd remasters of PS3 titles are really only for resolution and framerate buffs. So, think about whether you actually want to spend 60 bugs on this again.

And THAT's precisely why I keep bitchin' and moanin' that Kojima seriously needs to up the ENTIRE MGS collection in HD, 1080 pixels.
Well, not too sure about that to be honest. I know that quite a few games are PS4-only (Star Wars Battlefront, Until Dawn etc) but can't see a compelling reason for that.
I might actually get UC and UC2 for the PS3. Ie, seperate, since the PS3 doesn't sell all 3 games together.

Yeah, unlocking everything again would be a pain, no doubt. But I would be ok doing it in another couple of years. I wouldn't expect a collection until 2017 for the 30th anniversary. But a stand alone MGS4 remaster would be nice too.

I have played UC3 but not the other two.
As for your comment about praising them 'so openly in other posts', I don't remember actually doing that.

Try UC2. It's by far the best. Currently at the Heliport in UC3. And I kind of hated the ship-graveyard sequence. The shootouts for some reason are pretty annoying in this game, but maybe it's just me. It feels cheaper at times and more like trial and error rather than actually anticipating the different waves of enemies. Plus the story feels convoluted. We are constantly jumping from location to location and have a not really developed psychology subplot about Nate's obsession in there, that doesnt quite fit the tone of the series imo. Compare that to previous games where one gameplay-scenarion constantly flowed into the next without awkward location-jumps. I get, why this is the weakest. Also during shootouts hand-to-hand-combat is cumbersome and the throw-back-the-grenade-featore got me killed more often then not, because Nate threw the grenade against my own cover for some reason.
However, I liked the part where you are drugged and later when you chase after Talbot.
I also discovered a major bug. When you enter the spider-room in Jehmen (?), during the cutscene the sound was completely gone. I just skipped the cutscene, exited to the main menu, rewatched the cutscene from the Bonus menu and reloaded the game afterward, so it wasnt that big of a deal.

I will surely do so sometime.
Yeah, the ship/ graveyard levels just piss the fark outta me. There is no actual way to take the enemies down, not with the bloody currents washing you everywhere.
Most of this story, I'd say, features tenuously connected setpieces. You blink and you go from fighting politically correct Talbot thugs to politically correct 'pirates' without real warning.
I generally tend to stick to gunfights for this very reason. CQC is totally NOT an option, especially with the brutes and armoured behemoths.
And the grenade feature is really random on hard or crushing modes, so I try to use it less often. It requires INSANE amounts of practice to master. I would sprint away from it if possible.

Overall, my biggest problem is, that the gameplay suffers. There are quite a lot of forced walking sections, then there are the sinking ship and crashing plane sequences, were control is mostly taken from you, yet still you are expected to continue fighting gunmen. I died quite a few times and it didn't feel like it was my mistake. I also died quite a lot on the train in UC2 but that was clearly all my fault, because I didn't pay attention to blinking lights or enemies for a moment and let myself be cornered.
But in UC3, when the plane hull cracks open, Nate doesn't do anything, yet not all of the enemies were blown out and kept firing at me and I had no possibility of either getting to cover or defending myself. Also, the game will at times take my shotgun away, after I collected ammo for the thing and purposefully took weaker weapon with more ammo in the other hand. Then suddenly while the game is transitioning to another aerea, I want to take the shotgun, yet it is suddenly gone and the slot is empty. It still has some great moments, like the chase scenes, some of the puzzles and I also really liked the sequence where Nate is crossing the desert. I don't know if the other stuff is maybe just bugs in the remastered version, but I dunno, overall UC3 isn't as well crafted of a game as UC1 and UC2.

I think that in this aspect 3 just builds on 2. Although you must carry on fighting despite the circumstances, it is a setpiece that advances the game's plot. Nate survives drowning when a cruise ship goes down and then contends with yet another accident, this time on a jet. And he lives through both ordeals. I guess the very fact that there's combat when you're panicking just shows the importance of selecting good weapons before the battles.
That is indeed a strange glitch. Perhaps the game only wants you to use certain weapons for a specific combat area?
