Just thought I'd make a thread to highlight the things people enjoyed about the game, gameplay, story, moments. A gameplay feature I probably enjoyed the most was tagging, it made recon useful as well as the binoculars which I hardly used in the old games.

I liked the gameplay very much. It gives you a ton of bases to infiltrated, gives you a ton of tools and options and optional opjectives that motivate you to play the missions differently. I really love that each player has a truly unique experience with missions and we can tell each other anecdotes about stuff that happened. Even the cutscenes are incredibly dynamic, taking into acount the weather, time of day, Snake's outfit and even which buddy you have with you.
Even the environments are pretty well crafted, even though they come of as monotonous at times. My most intriguing moment was during a cutscene: Snake was soaked in blood (after a Skull boss fight) and it was raining during the cutscene. As it was raining, the blood was gradually washed away - with the cutscene in full progress and Snake interacting with Miller and Ocelot. Such attention to detail you find rarely these days.

Wow that is very cool about the cutscene with the rain washing the blood off, havn't noticed that myself. I liked the buddies (though it made me a bit sloppy if I relied on them too much) Quiets story is interesting, and I really do miss her now.

It's hard for me to compliment since any of them lead to a criticism. But I'll try...
Hospital chapter. My favorite part in the game by far. The tension, the mood, the suspense... Great stuff. My first play through was on the edge of my seat. Wish it was longer and had more areas to explore.
Animals that can fight back. Always felt that was missing in MGS3. Yeah, we got crocs, but it was great to see wolves and especially bears.
Controls and character movements. Very smooth and naturally. Felt refined and truly evolved.
Young Liquid. This one is tough because there was SOOO much missed opportunity here. But I enjoyed seeing a young Liquid. I'll leave it at that.
That's probably it.

Hell yes, I got barrelled of my horse by a bear after I had just landed I had no Idea what the hell attacked me till I got killed, I didn't even remotely think there would be bears. I liked Christopher Randolphs performance as Huey, though I wish (and with Peace Walker) that Huey was Madnar from Metal Gear 1 & 2. I was so conflicted about if he was guilty or innocent myself till the Strangelove stuff.

Yeah, Madnar was a missed opportunity. However, having him develope these weapons would be a retcon. In MG1 he was forced to develope Metal Gear. Then after Outer Heaven, the scientific community rejected his ideas on bipedal locomotion so he willingly helped in Zanzibar. Just to prove everyone wrong. Sadly, after Peace Walker and MGS5 this is convoluted since giant machines run and jump without any issues in the 70s and 80s.
It's funny, but I was really hoping to play as Gray Fox in MGS5. Such a deep and sad character that never got explored.

I was hopin' for Grey Fox or Kyle Schnieder or Night Fright backstory or somethin' myself. Madnar could've been in there developing a prototype Bloody Brad or Powered Gear or somethin' if ya want him.

Anyone like the Subsistence missions? I've been doing other missions the same as well for a challenge.

But I can live with the explanation that maybe Huey was jack-talented and thus build the great A.I. weapons or maybe a lot of the Sahelanthropus research was based off Skull Face and Peace Walker also not entirely on his account, but whatever. Maybe Big Boss didn't want that powerful mechs anymore, because he always had to take them out in the end (or his doppelganger). Now, Sahelanthropus at least didn't really work without the help of young Psycho Mantis. And to be fair, while REX was bulky and slow compared to the 1970s and 1980s Metal Gears, he at least was pretty much rocket-proof and you cannot harm him, unless you hit the radome and later the cockpit. Yeah, Gray Fox' absence really is a missed opportunity here, but makes sense considering you aren't really playing as Big Boss.

Once thing I learned is that time is the great decision maker. I loaded up Phantom Pain a couple of weeks ago. It was the first time since October. I played for a couple of hours and that was it. It's been 3.5 years since I last played Peace Walker all the way through. I've come to accept that back in 2008 I was right. For me, MGS4 was the final mission. I really tried to force interest in the new games, but alas it's not there. I even stopped caring what is canon and what isn't. I have my 6 games and that's all that matters for me. That's the Metal Gear series to me.
I have played the first 6 games at least once a year. Hmmm... I'm actually tempted to fire up Ghost Babel.

Back on th topic, I actually kind of liked the rain dance scene. I mean, it is pretty dam exploitative of Quiet and has her basically naked bending around and that of course is not what I liked about that scene. I like however when Snake joins in and they have a very beautiful moment of bonding. And that scene is so representative for the whole Quiet situation. It actually is a good character with an interesting arc and if it were just the weird clothing choices, it would still be a strong character. But, she is unneccesarily sexualized through boobshots and her shoving her butthole in the camera. The way she moves and acts at times is completely contrary to her character and makes no sense, especially since Snakes and her relationship is not romantic, even though they grow very close. But as it is now, Kojima sadly compromised the character completely. But at least the second half of that scene is very beautiful in my opinion.

But, she is unneccesarily sexualized through boobshots and her shoving her butthole in the camera. Not to burst your bubble, but generally Kojima sexualises almost EVERY female character in the series. Case in point: -MGS3 if you leave the transmitter inside Snake, Eva enter a farking HILARIOUS sequence where she wears nothing but a bikini. -MGS4 if you do a specific action during each Beauty battle, you can take pictures of each girl wearing a VERY skimpy outfit. Since I don't exactly play EVERY game, I may be missing out on others. But yes, I guess you still get my point.

There is a difference between small things on the side and utterly needless fanservice. In the whole B&B unit bossfights, the beauty fights (if you want to call them that) were really juxtaposed with their beast personalities where they were essentially war machines. It just made you intentionally really uncomfortable and at least played to some degree into the whole theme of how the horrors of war can deform a beautiful person at twist them to appear as a monster. Kind of a visualisation of that. Also, the fact, that them caressing Snake actually drains his life gauge further emphasises how Snake is in a way seperate from a regular human being. He is aging faster, he can't have children, he's a soldier, a killer and not ment to live happily ever after.
As for EVA, her sexuality actually served a purpose in the story. She and Snake were in love with each other. They are cool human beings on equal ground - or so we thought, but we actually learn at the end, that seducing Snake was part of EVA's mission and so, it all makes sense. And Sniper Wolf wasn't sexualized to the degree that she was almost naked and shoving her butthole and boobs into the camera or Snake at every oportunity. So, it all is a matter of degree and whether it is part of the story or not. But in the case of Quiet, it doesn't fit the character at all and also has no purpose in the story and isn't limited to a small goofy easter egg like EVA wrestling the tracking chip out of Snake or Meryl briefly appearing in underway when you catch her fast enough in the Ladies room. Hell, if Quiet was just wearing that outfit but not act in any way sexualized at all, I would be completely fine with it... actually I think that would be a really interesting contrast - having a sexy exposed character that isn't objectified or doesn't act fan-servicey at all - tat would have been the antithesis to scandly clad video game chicks that Kojima was talking about way back when she was first revealed.
