Kind of funny. Noticed Metal Gear Solid was originally rendered "Metal Gear: Solid". It's really kind of a double game. The conclusion of the Metal Gear Trilogy and the start of the Metal Gear Solid series. I'm currently replaying it on the Vita on and off (play a large section, then take a break for a couple of days). It is really amazing how strongly I have memorized everything and how familiar I am with this game. To stay on topic, I think it's safe to say that this was my first video game that I couldn't get anough from (that wasn't a licenced movie-tie-in). And even on the release of MGSV I still got this same excited giddy feeling that I got back in 2002 when MGS2, the first sequel and the first game that I highly anticipated, was released over here. Since then I've lost interest in other series that I loved over the years, but Metal Gear remained something special. Kind of sad that the series is over now (considering that Kojima has left and Konami seems more interested in pachislot-machines than actual video games right now), but I also love that it is finally complete.

Yeah. It's a pity Kojima went elsewhere but the true MGS series is complete IMO from MG1 to MGS4. All the rest is considered sh!t that makes little or no sense to me.

Meh... For some the series ended in 2008.

Generally speaking the series ended when Kojima decided to throw out a sh!tton of projects without actually giving a fark about the numerous plot holes/ inconsistencies/ whatever the hell popped up (that doesn't fall into those two aforementioned categories).
Doesn't help that Kojima kept trolling with ZoE3 until he announced that is was in development, only to then pretty much cancel it again to go jack off to more Metal Gear games forever.
