Problem in MGS HDC

I'm currently going through the MGS2 VR missions and need some help.

On the Vita, the D-pad down button raises and lowers your gunsights. This is literally a MUST for most VR missions to achieve a high score. But on the PS3, there's no option to raise/ lower the weapon sights. So firing a shot is like guesswork.

Does anybody know how to solve this?

The square-button is pressure sensitive. So if you have a rifle, you have to preess that button very gently and snake will only raise the weapon without firing it. Good Luck!

So you can hold up guards on no-kill playthroughs with the square button?

EDIT: Notice the Vita control scheme SPECIFICALLY mentioning the down on D-pad being used to raise/ lower sights. I saw no such option on the PS3.

Yah, pretty much. THat's also how we had to do it in the old days.
