Hey guys, it's been a while... though I didn't keep you waiting xD
We've had numerous announcements of stuff I know the two other people are interested in.
There's a new Death Stranding trailer, new Naughty Dog announcements and I don't know what else.
So, I'd like to say, I don't know what to make of Death Stranding, yet. TheGamingBrit has uploaded a great video about actors in video games and I mostly agree with him, though Norman Reedus is fresh enough for me that he could be iconic, especially since he will possibly be completely covered in the ludens armor, which will give him a more original look. I found the inclusion of Guillermo del Toro in the trailer downright goofy tbh. Overall, I think next time Kojima should show us some actual game, even if it will be at TGS 2017. Back in 2012(has it really been 5 years?!) the first MGSV trailers both had actual gameplay in it (MG 25th anniversary 2012 for Ground Zeroes, PAX 2012 for Moby Dick Studio's The Phantom Pain, E3 2013 for MGSV). So far, Death Stranding seems to be a great but weird looking arthouse cgi flick.
As for Naughty Dog, I think The Lost Legacy is a great idea for a side-story. Chloe was sorely missed in UC4, especially since I felt she has become part of the core team (even if they wrote her out of UC3 for no reason after a few hours). Pairing her up with Nadine is also great, since I though her character was actually pretty sympathetic for a villain (compared to Lazarovic, Talbot, Marlowe, Roman) and she arguably has lost the most in UC4 through the Drake brothers. The Last of Us 2 on the other hand... I have to admit, I never liked The Last of Us all that much. I though the gameplay was solid, but shallow and the story was decent and well executed, but also cheap and pretentious. Kill a puppy or a kid in real life and I'll cry, but in a game... maybe I'm just hardening with age, but that doesn't really get to me that much. It was a decent game, don't get me wrong, but I thought it was far from being the holy grail of game it was made out to be by almost everyone. Aside from that, I always felt TLoU was a self contained one-off standalone story with a proper ending to it, that didn't need any continuation. It is the story of how Joel and Ellie grow closer and how Joel gradually opens up to her. And that story is just finished with him saving her life at the possibly at the cost of humanity and accepting her as surrogate daughter. So, I feel Naughty Dog went the easy way by making a sequel out of their most critically acclaimed game, even if it doesn't lend itself to one, and was hoping for something more original from their side. Maybe something very different, maybe some interesting Sci-Fi story or a return to the cartoonish style they did before UC.
Well, that's just my thoughts on that.
