Funny thing, Hamish Black used to be very positive about this game. It was actually kind of his video that convinced me, how grave some of MGSV's problems are. I still don't fully agree with his gameplay assessment, that most people will only play one way. I think that even if you do this there a still enough dynamic factors in the game that each mission plays tense. Also, once you've build up your mother base, you're not really interested in the low-level soldiers anymore.

www.youtube.com/watch?v=5FBaC2f3pCMHere's another interesting Review/ Critique. The channel name actually translates "sky leaves". ("Laub" being specifically leaves that fall down a tree in autumn). I don't know if the guy is actually German. He seems to have the accent. However, more than 2 1/2 years after its release, it might be beating a dead horse.

It’s a good review. Agree with it 100%. I recently finished my April play through MGS2 and really looking forward to doing the 10th anniversary run through MGS4 in June. Still hard to believe it’s been a decade now. Being less attached to the series let’s me not take it so personally. And having stepped back so much over the last 10 years it really makes me see it more clearly. It’s so obvious where there was genuine effort and care and where Kojima phoned it in. MGS4 showed massive signs of fatigue. But all the flaws actually seemed to fit the nerrative. The series and the creator were just like the main protagonist, a tired and worn out shell of their former selves. One last nostalgic push for glory before the curtain call. The look and design of MPW and MGS5 always felt generic to me. They felt like “just another game”. Something I could see anyone make. They didn’t feel like Metal Gear.

To give a Tolkien Analogy: Metal Gear & Metal Gear 2: Solid Snake = The Hobbit Metal Gear Solid 1, 2 & 4 = The Lord of the Rings Metal Gear Solid 3 = The Silmarillion Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker = The Appendices Metal Gear Solid V = Unfinished Tales xD

What do you mean by the 'simlarillion' and the unfinished tales'? I never even knew THOSE existed! rofl Really? Well "The Silmarillion" is essentially a prequel to The Lord of the Rings, which details the first age, creation of the world, the elves, Sauron's Origins and all kind of stuff. Spans thousands of years and is very intricate and detailed. Tolkien himself worked on it his entire life, even way before The Lord of the Rings. However, he never finished it and died in 1973, so four years later, 1977, his son edited and published it. When it was successful, 3 years on, 1980, Tolkien Jr. published "Unfinished Tales", which is exactly what the name implies, a collection of additional writings, longer versions of sections of The Silmarillion and some of the Stuff in Rings (I think a detailed history of the Istari/ Wizards as well as stuff tying The Hobbit book stronger to LotR, etc.). Basically, Tolkien Jr. (Who is now in his 90s!) has continued to publish virtually everything his father has written, both middle-earth related and non-middle-Earth related. But The Silmarillion and Unfinished Tales are kind of the Essentials aside from The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings.

I wonder where MPO and the rest of the games fit in lmfao Who knows? Metal Gear Survive is probably Middle-Earth: Shadow of Mordor or its sequel - a cash grab loosely based on the original work, without the original creator involved, utterly derivative. But this is also where the comparison reaches its limits: Middle-earth was never really a franchise until we got Peter Jackson's films and most spin-offs are actually based on the film trilogy rather than the original novel. By contrast, Kojima himself was at least overseeing the production of most of the games apart from his main eight. Like Star Wars, Metal Gear was designed to be more of a multi-media project, while Middle-earth was really just Tolkien's private hobby, with only a small selection published before his death, which then inspired a massively successful film franchise 30 years later, not to mention an entire genre.

>>MG Survive being the cash cow: wasn't Rising supposed to be this? It REALLY seems like the original creator was NEVER involved.
>>Like Star Wars
I kinda agree with that analysis... I liken Metal Gear to Star Wars a LOT. That's exactly it. I'm totally against the new trilogy. ESPECIALLY Ep. 7 and beyond. lol And just like Vader, Big Boss went from a mythical figure to a whiny bitch! Padme this... The Boss that... lol The most chapters Kojima makes about Big Boss the less I like his character.
You probably have done this but look up everything wrong with SW7 and 8. I know I SHOULD watch Last Jedi but I simply CANNOT connect with No. 7. Sorry. Had 2187 NEVER defected to the Resistance, BOTH movies would be non-existent. In fact, I can't see the new trilogy happening. AT ALL.

>>MG Survive being the cash cow: wasn't Rising supposed to be this? It REALLY seems like the original creator was NEVER involved. Well, they kinda both were. However, unlike Survive, Rising actually turned out to be a pretty damn fun game. Why do I have Deja vu? It's as if I've read these exact same words somewhere... sometime... somehow... That's really a matter of taste. I quite enjoyed the new films, but they are not without their flaws. VII was admittedly derivative and felt a bit too rushed. the climax was meh, there were too few quiet moments. VIII on the other hand took a lot of risks. I love all the Luke/ Rey/ Kylo/ Snoke stuff. There were some great surprises. The climax felt almost apocalyptic. But the whole B-Plot with the Rebel fleet escaping dragged a bit and the Casino felt a bit out of place (though the music in there is great). And both films have a bit too much humor for my taste. Looking forward to Solo.
