Setting and Story - just not a fan of this style in general. I prefer a story that is grounded in reality with a flavor of sci-fi fantasy. That’s what I loved about the Metal Gear series. The more he broke that balance the less I liked it. I know some people hold Snatcher and Policenauts in high regard. I played both and just didn’t care for them at all.
Gameplay - too much gear prep. For me, gaming is more about an escape, not a slavish attachment to reality simulation. One of the many reasons I hated the mother base concept. I want to start a game and play. Not spend hours prepping and maintaining. That’s boring.
The world has amazing sci-fi technologies, but also the setting is very nature heavy. There are grasslands, mountains, crater-areas, lakes, and that's what you will be moving in 95% of the game. And due to the graphics and the mechanics, these are very convincing.
You have to do some item management, particularly generate, what you want to take with you, but there is an auto-arrange button that instantly organizes your cargo on Sam, so you don't have to spend a lot of time in the packing menu, if you don't want to. But I felt, I was a little bit better at optimizing the cargo (I'd always pack valuable mission-cargo very close to Sam, not on top of the jenga-tower, so it would less easily take damage and fall off if I had an enemy encounter or simply screwed up) and more immersed by doing it myself.
If it's a "power-fantasy" you want, something fast-paced and simple, if you absolutely detest managing stuff in menus and if you detest anything sci-fi, then yeah, this game might not be for you. But since the game is cheap now, I'd say, no harm in trying, if you are still curious and have the time.
